NYC open market

Hey ladies,
Had a couple of questions....
This is my first year teaching in the DOE, I was wondering if it is a good idea to look for a transfer even though I don't have tenure?....also is it a good idea to post on the open market? Or should I go to schools and drop my resume of f personally?

I just had a baby and i would love to be closer to home and also I just don't like the people I work with it is a very miserable place! however my principals are AMAZING, but they are not the ones that I socialize with and eat lunch with everyday

So just wondering your thoughts

Re: NYC open market

I left my school after my first year in the DOE. I was miserable there.

My principal is honoring my time there towards tenure. It doesn't hurt to look.

Re: NYC open market

This is the yr to do it. You need 2 years with the principal putting you up for tenure. So if you transfer next year your setting yourself up for another year of probation so you can be with the new principal for 2 years

Ditto. There were rumors flying that my school was going to close, and my commute was long. Give it a shot and see what happens.

Re: NYC open market

Extending your probationary period is at principal's discretion.

Generally two years is enough so now is the time for you to move.

If your principal is "amazing" think hard before you do though.

There are a lot of principals in the DOE who are not so amazing.

Oh, and you eat lunch? Chat Icon
