NYC Parking Pass Question

I will be getting one of those parking passes in the next month or so (the one that allows you to park around the school).

I've never had one before, so can someone explain if there are any "rules" to using it.

For example, does that pass excuse you from the alt. side parking rules?

I already hate road parking as it is, but I don't want to make any newbie mistakes.

You have to adhere to all the parking rules- alternate side, etc. There will be DOE-only signs. That's where you can park. Nothing really supersedes it, it just prevents people without permits from taking the DOE spots.
