NYC Pay Scale
My husband will be starting teaching fellows in the fall! I am wondering will the city honor his law school credits? So do you think they will put him on the Bachelor's +60, Masters +30 or Ph.D. level in terms of pay? He will be step 1 obviously, in terms of teaching expeirence.
Does anyone have a current pay scale for NYC teachers and could give me an idea of what he might make? I made nothing when I taught in the city with no contract, and i know it's gone up a lot since then....

Re: NYC Pay Scale
Well he won't be able to be on a the MA step unless he has a MA degree. Can't get to the MA+30 unless he has 30 credits above his MA.

He has his bachelors and a juris doctorate ( a law degree) so i am just wondering where they put you for that... it's more credits than a Masters... it is a doctorate level degree, so i don't know what they would consider it.....his law degree was about 60 credits...

Re: NYC Pay Scale
tell him to call his local UFT office. They were really helpful to me.
he can also try the salary office at the BOE, but it's hit or miss if they will be as helpful 718.935.2643 718.935.2643
Here is a link to the current payscale: NYC Salary Scale

Re: NYC Pay Scale
I went to Dowling with someone who had a law degree, and that put her on the PhD column in most districts. Unfortunately, that makes you a very, very expensive new hire - but I am not sure if NYC works the same way.

shouldn't really matter too much in the city b/c your pay is usually figured out after you are hired.

Re: NYC Pay Scale
Thanks all!
WOW.... i still think the salaries are so low.... i made almost $5k more than what the city gives the highest education level possible my first year in a district out here with only a Masters.... i thought the new contract would have you all some more $$$$
thank you everyone! I appreciate the help. Hopefully they will give him the Last one...
