NYC teachers - Is it true??
I just checked the academic calendar for the fall... Is it true that teachers and GC's report on September 7? After years of starting in August, that lovely, late date sounds impossible.

I did hear about the possibility of a Monday first day of school, but didn't hear about when we were coming in (required)...

I agree. I would MUCH rather have the kids come in for the one day than be there later in the year. This nonsense with coming in Monday is enough for me. I would not want it to happen next year.

It would make so much more sense for the kids to start Monday considering there is no school that Thur and Fri due to Jewish Holidays!

I actually do NOT think it would make sense ...
I think it would be best for them to come in, give them the syllabus, supply lists, etc.
It is always such a project for them to get the materials ... "mom doesnt get paid until friday, ill do it over the weekend ..."
This will give everyone more time to be prepared.

See in my school the kids won't bother to come in for that Wednesday so I would just have to go over the same material again on Monday.

I have a feeling that would really be the trend across the city- we'd have very low attendance, at least at the middle and high school level where the kids have more pull and more independence. And then Monday would be a complete re-run of the previous Wednesday, with the kids who were there on the first day feeling annoyed and resentful about having to sit through ther same thing twice.

Similarly, in the elementary schools, parents may not want to come back from vacation for one day...so they may not come for that first day of school...
