NYC Teachers - Talk to me about being an ATR
I am returning from a childcare leave and might be returning as an ATR. If I don't find a job before the start of the school year, what can I expect?
UPDATE: Never mind! I was hired by a great school!

honestly, if you are just starting back after childcare, I say go for it!
You will just bounce from place to place with no responsibilities. You come in, you do whatever the assignment is, and then you leave. Not a bad gig for someone who has a newborn.
However, the flip side is, if it is not your personality to do that, then it will be hard for you!
Good Luck!

I'm a guidance counselor. I like having a caseload and real responsibilities... but I guess I'll get some reading done for my book club.
What scares me though is that I can be sent to any HS in the borough. I have to d/o and p/u my girls from daycare at specific times... how am I going to manage that if I'm going to a new place every week?!?
Sigh.

I'm not going to lie, it sucks! After 11 years at the same school I was excessesd(June 2011). In Sept of 2011 I began what for me was the most upsetting time of my life. I was very fortunate to get a job December 1 of 2011 (so I only dealt with it for 3 mos) and this is now my forever job. I got so lucky and I hope you do too.
Ps. I'm Elem Ed and I worked in District 30 in Queens. I live out east on LI and the commuting to different schools was the worst. I now teach in District 28. If I can be of any more help just ask.

I think you can look for long term sub guidance counselor positions, so you would be replacing someone who is out on leave. Schools can also request specific ATR's, so see if your home school could do that?
I'm also in D28!

I got lucky with it and didn't mind it too much. My friend hated it.
