NYC Teachers...
I am reminding everyone to PLEASE vote NO for our contracts. We are not really getting a 15% raise with all of the givebacks. Please spread the word to all NYC teachers to vote NO!

Re: NYC Teachers...
I'm sorry, and I agree with you, but we don't have another battle ahead. This is our chance. We may be giving back a lot, but his plan is to destroy the union and teachers and by voting no, he will break us hard. Aside from that, so many parents supported us. If we say no, they are going to think we are greedy. We need to save bigger battles for when he's gone and we will have the power on our side again. Don't forget, the chancellor is not a supporter of the union. And Bloomburg is a businessman. He hates unions with a passion. Anyway, yes, we are giving back, but he can't control how anyone uses those givebacks. With Doomburg, there is no other chance. He will say "Hey, I offered. They said no."

Re: NYC Teachers...
I am voting NO.....but I do beleive that the contract will pass b/c the union is made up of too many people who are afraid of going on strike or speaking their minds. The flip side of this would be if they needed the union to help them fight an injustice they would have the cajones to call the union.
I have been on strike before in Nov-Jan of 2001-2002 just after we got married and yes, it did **** but we made it through and I respected the people I worked with a ton more. I DO NOT respect those who cross the strike line!

I agree totally. There are many things in this contract that I take issue with- the letters in the file, for one. BUT Miss Jones is totally right- Bloomburg will NOT come back to the table and we will go four more years with no contract and no raises.
Bloomy and Klein would LOVE it if we went on strike. It would be the end of the UFT.
People in the private sector are being laid off in droves. And while people are pointing out flaws in this raise, it's still a raise. Starting police officers took a 10k pay cut. And while our job is not easy, compare it to that of a rookie cop working in Bed Stuy for $25k a year.
What we need to do is dump Randi and find someone who will not sell us out again.

I doubt anyone will vote Randy in again. She seems like she's definately selling us out!

Re: NYC Teachers...
You're right, but I don't think it matters. I bet she has her eye on bigger and better things for herself. She'll tout herself as the leader who got her teachers a 15% raise from an anti-teacher mayor and chancellor.
Of course, the person who takes her place might not be better. The ICE people are a bit too radical for me, but who the hell would want that job anyway?

Re: NYC Teachers...
I agree... everyone I talk to said they voted no, so if it passes I can't imagine how. Unless people don't want to say yes because they feel people would get mad. I think its fixed.
