AND I think there is a limit to the amount of meeting they can make you go to during your prep periods...Like for grade level conferences

Elem we don't have study halls but we have teacher aides to do lunch duty and there is usually an administrator assigned to each periodChat Icon

Lunch duty and hall assignments ARE back in the contract, but it is up to the principal what "Professional Activities" are on the options list and if he/she wants to put teachers in the halls/ student caf.

Some of our school's professional activities options are:
Homerooms
Lunch Duty
Hall Duty
1-1 Tutoring
Mentoring

Also, quite often we get coverages during those periods.

Professional activities are back in the contract. It depends on the school what these duties are. In our school, some teachers are stuck with cafeteria duty and hall duty. I hate to tell you this, but it's usually the new teachers. Hopefully in your school it's different.

Re: NYC teachers, I need your help again

We get to choose our duties. We get a list at the end of the year and rate 1-3 what we'd like to do. Some include Study Groups, Curriculum teams, Literacy Groups, Mentoring...etc. HOWEVER there is cafeteria duty and they do it by reverse seniority. So if you are new that is most likely what you will get. It is only for one sememster though; not the entire year.
