NYer's are Nice Part II
Everytime I'm in the city I run into someone that's nice and helpful see "Lost in the City" I ask someone for help and I get it.... Media say's NYer's are rude but I find that to be so untrue... I do find that NYer's keep to them self and mind their own business but when you ask someone a question here they are quick to help..

i absolutely agree with this and i find i do the same thing when in the city, i keep to myself, i don't get in people's business, but if someone asks me for directions or whatever i try to help them as best i can, and find others do the same as well

Re: NYer's are Nice Part II
I live in the city and couldn't agree more. Once I fell in the street. Before I could realize what happened, two people were picking me up- taking me to the side. Someone gave me an (unopened) bottle of water and kept asking me if I was ok, should they call an ambulance, etc.. They wouldn't leave me alone until I told them all I was fine and could prove that I could walk It was very sweet.
I also just ran the 1/2 marathon and to see how many NYers came out to cheer their friends, and the rest of us, on was so amazing!

Couldn't agree more. I have always contended that people mistake the hustle and bustle of moving in the city for rudeness and being anti-social. I encounter plenty more rude people outside of NY!

Re: NYer's are Nice Part II
I live in Dallas, Texas and I find NY'ers to be SO much nicer. NY'ers may live in there own world but if you stop one on the street and ask for help, they will actually help you. Dallas people will keep on walking and give you the "look"

Re: NYer's are Nice Part II
I think there are nice people in every city, and I think there are rude people in every city.
I don't think it depends on geographical location/ regional stereotypes.

Re: NYer's are Nice Part II
I lived in the city for about 15 years, so I'm glad people think we are nice (now I'm a LIer so I don't count anymore)! Part of it is the nasty sterotype I think, people assume NYers will be rude, but they often are not as you have all found out.
Two days I was most proud to be a NYer and found people really helped each other, Sept. 11th (and the weeks afterwards). So many people volunteered time to help sort through the wreckage and generally did nice things. And the day of the last big blackout, can't remember the date. People expected everyone to go wild (I was concerned also to be honest), but it was very peaceful. People helped direct traffic, people hung out on their stoops, shared food, it turned out to be a nice experience and it could have been horrible.
