NYSHIP-Empire Plan & Panorama test
Does anyone have NYSHIP the Empire Plan and have taken or will take the Panorama test? Or any of the other genetic testing?
My dr made it seem like it would be a big deal because I will be 35 when I deliver and am only 34 now.
I called the hotline asking about coverage for this specific test, just to make sure if I get the test done I won't get an enormous fee and they kinda blew me off like I was crazy for calling and stated that I am covered 100% for any type of dna/genetic testing, so why am I concerned.
I am just curious if anyone has any experience with this.
Thanks!

Re: NYSHIP-Empire Plan & Panorama test
My NYSHIP covered everything, but my doctor had told me that some insurances don't cover the tests like those, materna21, etc. (the fetal DNA in maternal blood tests) unless a woman is 36. The doctor was probably just looking out for you.

I have NYSHIP and they are trying to charge me for the materni21 test....$2700. Gonna have to fight for it. I had a valid reason for getting the test done too

I had the same problem last time... ended up paying 250 or 300. But I was 37 at the time so it should have been covered! I am hoping it will be covered this time, I'm 39!

I too have NYSHIP and I had this test done and received an enormous bill. I called the company to complain and they said I qualified for some program where all I had to pay was $250.
Definitely try calling them.

Me too. I have the Empire Plan and my doctor told me that the genetic testing would be covered because I'm 36 and have had several losses. I was shocked when I got a bill in the mail for thousands of dollars a few months later! I went back to the doctor's office with it and they were like, oops, sorry, Empire stopped covering the test December 31.
But I just had to call the 1-800 number on the bill and claim "financial hardship" and they knocked the bill down to $250, no questions.
This was for the MaterniT-21, by the way. My friend at work who has the same coverage as me goes to a different OB and she had a different brand of test, and hers was covered. I think maybe she had Panorama?
