OBGYN rave- found a new ob in huntington/greenlawn area

a could weeks ago i posted how i was unhappy with my ob and needed some reccomendations. one of my friends from a playgroup mentioned dr. meagher. pronounced dr.mar. anyway went to see him yesterday and the office was beautiful, he took the time to ask me questions and felt like he cared. he asked why i left the previous doctor and after the exam he had me go back in to go over information. i told him i was happy with the time he too with me. i loved dr goldman and dr wagner but the 2 1/2 hour wait to 1 1/2 wait kill me. i only go every 6 months but leaving my daughter with someone that long is hard for me plus i can do so much with my time and feel its not fair for me to wait.

If the house we put a bid on falls through, I was going to switch to an OB/GYN closer to home. This is good to know.

Dr. Meagher is my mom's doctor and I have been going to him since I was 17. He is a one of a kind doctor. I had to have my children before he retires. Even though he's much older than most women would prefer, I had the EASIEST, STRESSFREE, DELIVERIES AND IT'S BECAUSE OF HIM.

He's truly the greatest!!

He's actually in Greenlawn on Pulaski Road, just past the Waldbaum's shopping center. His office is next to a nursery. 368-2828

Re: OBGYN rave- found a new ob in huntington/greenlawn area

Sorry to have to chime in here. 10 years ago, my sister was pregnant and using Dr. Meagher. She was at his office one day and noticed a calendar with more than 2 weeks marked off as his vacation. This happened only about a week before the actual vacation was to start. Her due date fell right in the middle of that vacation. She was upset that she was never told about this until she saw the calendar. She left the practice, met with a new OB right away and a few days later had her baby with the new OB. I know that not everyone would feel the way she did but she is still mad about it!!!!!!!!!!! He did not have a partner. There are always plans in place for a doctor's absence but I think the patient should know more about what to expect. I now advocate using group practices and I go to a practice where they give newly pregnant ladies a memo about how their coverage works.

She did really like him and I know that some people would not have minded this situation.

Now I'll share my story. Dr. Meagher was in practice w/someone whom I wasn't a fan of. I practically begged him to ensure me that he'd be there the day I delivered. He too was scheduled to be on vacation, he knew how I felt about him being there, he MADE sure he was there. I was induced (on time) but he was there.

kerie, most doctors alternate with other practice as back up. i wasnt guraranteed getting the doctor i was seeing for 9 months when i was to give birth there are no guarantees. it stinks our sister had to switch and the doctor didnt inform her of this but in todays times you dont know who is going to deliver the baby. sometimes the doctor can get caught up in a delvery and the nurse delivers it.

i feel your pain! waiting for dr. goldman is like a 5 hour commitment. who has that much time with a toddler. the wait is insane. as much as i hate to do so, i think it is time for me to look elsewhere too.

jo, i agree about goldman. dr meagher has been in business for a very long time. he delivered babies of kids he originally delivered. they do all the bloodwork there so you dont have to goto a lab. thats a plus too.

Glad you found someone you like! Chat Icon My OB is a sole practicioner and I wouldn't have it any other way! He has a back-up doctor if he is away, but I actually get a call, even if I am not scheduled for anything, to let me know when his schedule is (for vacations). I've been going to him for 12 years, had 2 children and never once had him not available for me.

my sister somehow had not thought of the idea that a doctor cannot guarantee availability. i do think she should have thought to ask "what if you are not there?" but she did not, and she was blindsided when she saw his calendar. incidentally, i was with her when that happened (i went to see a sonogram). even though i feel that i would have thought to ask the question long before something like that happened, i was happy when my OB practice gave me a memo about coverage. i might not have left a practice over something like that anyway but i figured i'd explain what happened.
