obsessive compulsive disorder

I swear I have this disorder:
-I am constantly washing my hands
-I check to make sure the door is locked like a hundred times
-When I write out a check I have to make sure the amount is written correctly (I check over and over and over)...this drives me crazy!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: obsessive compulsive disorder

If you truly feel that way, I would see a Dr. ASAP. I officially do have OCD and it's horrible. It completely takes over your entire life so if you feel that way, i'd get it in check immediately.

Re: obsessive compulsive disorder

ITA with ^

everyone has something that could be construed as OCDish (ie i like the towels folded a certain way, i like my house neat, etc.) but it's really the amount of time and energy focused on things that makes it bad.

OCD also has a lot of things that come with it that aren't part of the "popular" understanding. it's not just straightening or making things neat. it's that to the 1000th level (getting stuck in a doorway flicking a light switch over and over and hating it but being unable to pull yourself away) and intrusive thoughts (ie being terrified of hurting your child even though you know you wouldn't).

it sucks. the sooner you get it taken care of, the better.

Re: obsessive compulsive disorder

I can be neurotic about things. I like order and things to be done my way. Sometimes I check and double check. I laugh and say it's OCD, but really if it was, it would be crippling to my everyday life and to others. Most people with OCD can't tell that they have it and just feel that everyone else doesn't get them. If you truly are concerned, see a professional, but if your life is not crippled by these "ticks" then chances are that you are fine.

Yes, I think that is what it is....my life isn't crippled by these things I just like to check over and over again to make sure it is right! Thanks!
