Official daycare research list?
I'm very early, so I know I shouldn't really be worrying over this yet, but DH & I do want to start sorting our options (or at least we'll start after my first sono). I don't know what I'll do yet since i have a very good job, but it's in Manhattan and I'm not sure I'll be up for the commute & long hrs after DC is born. So, obviously, I'm weighing day care options (in-home vs. a facility) or I may do the SAHM thing for a while, or find something PT on LI.
Anyway, I wonder if you all have started your research on facilities, and if so, maybe we could all add what we find to one post (since when I did a search it was difficult to find any real information).
Specifically, it would be great to know about the environment and prices.
Anyone have any info to share? I'm looking for Nassau specificially, but I'm sure others are looking in Suffolk too - so any info will be helpful.
ETS: I will cross-post on parenting - maybe the BTDT moms can offer info on their facilities.

Re: Official daycare research list?
I have been to a couple so far. I LOVED Miss Debbie's in Plainview, but they close at 6 and I we can't get home by then, so we need to find a place that is open until 7pm. They also have a loctaion in South Huntington.
ETA: It may nit be too early to look at some daycares. I need it starting Feb 1, and they didnt know if they would have a spot open by them.
It's never too early to research!

Re: Official daycare research list?
Thanks for your feedback! I wouldn't be able to pick-up by 6, but DH can - something to look into.

Re: Official daycare research list?
I have been to a few so far. I've been looking them all up on the NYS website that I have bookmarked at home. The problem is that most of them have at least some sort of violation in their history, according to this website. Many of those violations are minor but I hate the fact that they exist at all. I have ruled out many due to violations. Many of my local ones were recently inspected and some got new violations. I have also spoken on the phone to 2 home based providers. One of them seemed great and one of them seemed terrible. The only places I have gone to visit so far were larger centers. They were all okay but I do not think I have found the one yet. I am looking near home and near my office.

Re: Official daycare research list?
UPDATE: I got some FMs asking me about the website I have been looking at. Here is the info. I originally got this info from other LIFers:
Try this and click on the profile for each center in order to get to the part about a specific facility's violatons.
NYS website that gives violations
However, I started my search here in order to find the names of the places in my area. This site gives names of providers but not inspection results. I am almost positive that Nassau and the boroughs have similar sites. Suffolk site
