Official Disney thread

There are so many people who have gone to disney recently or who are going soon. It would be great if we could keep disney questions and reviews all to one thread so that we have someplace to reference everything.

Personally, I'd love to hear reviews from some of you (Flee) who went recently. I especially want to hear about which restaurants you liked, b/c I want to make reservations soon.

I highly recommend everyone check it out.

Re: Official Disney thread

If you want to go to a fun restaurant I recommend the 50's primetime cafe in MGM. It is set up like your going home to "mom's" house for dinner. The furniture is from the 50's and they have tv's all around with clips of shows from the 50's. Your waiters are your "aunts & uncles". Their in charge of making sure you eat all your veggies! It's a hilarious place to eat and the food is great too!

Re: Official Disney thread

Ok I'm a little slow I just discoverd this board NOW!

As Deb already said, the Soarin' ride in Epcot (in "The Land") was GREAT ! I had actually gone on it when I went to Disneyland/California Adventure a few years ago. It was so popular that they fianlly brought it to WDW. I was SO HAPPY that they 'previewed" the ride when DH and I were in Epcot this past trip (it officially opened this month) Its a MUST DO!

Also I love Test Track at Epcot and really just about ALL the attractions there - its probably my favorite park out of them all. Definitely get FassPasses for Test Track and Soarin - we would have been stuck on line forever without them! The only ride I wasn't crazy about at Epcot is Mission:Space. It got both DH and I kinda nauseous and we are coaster freaks, it was just a bit claustrophobic for us Chat Icon

MGM Studios is also great - and really think the Tower of Terror is the best ride in all of Disney! It is SOO much fun! I also loved the Aerosmith Rock-n-Roll coaster, as well as the Great Movie Ride

We didn't get much time at the Magic Kingdom, so I'm not the best person to ask for advice about that

As for restaurants, as far as this recent trip goes I'm not the best person to ask. I'd been to Disney SO many times (pre-DH) that I didn't drive myself crazy making reservations this past trip - we kind of "winged" it , which isn't really the best idea because things book up FAST!

I'm sure some of the Disney 'regulars' will give you better suggestions than I can, but in the past (I've been to Disney at least 10x) I've really enjoyed the following places. You can get more details on Disneyworld.com:

Ohana in the Polynesian Resort
Spoodles at the Boardwalk also
Flyin' Fish at the Boardwalk
Artists Point at the Wilderness Lodge
Biergarten in the German pavilion is SO much fun (Oktoberfest) ..
Le Cellier in Canada is also terrific if you love steak Chat Icon

I literally think I've eated at EVERY restaurant in Epcot, and some are better than others (personally the restaurants in the Chinese and Italian pavillions are overrated, IMO) but they are alll a fun experience nonetheless
There are also many wonderful restaurants at Downtown Disney to consider!
Marymoon and Wendy can probably give you more specific recommendations, though - they are 2 of the Disney "pros" on the boards!!

I'll keep thinking of other things to do/see as I remember them!

We just love Disney! We are going in June for a couple of days and Soarin' is at the top of our list things to do. I didn't realize they were previewing the ride when we were there last month (did I mention that we love it there?? Chat Icon ) so we didn't get to check it out then.

Re: Official Disney thread

i just got back from a week there with my family.

my favorite rides:
magic kingdom- big thunder mountain, splash mountain, space mountain, mickey's philharmagic (actually a show but awesome), peter pan, it's a small world.

epcot- soarin, mission space (do not go on twice in a row!), test track, turtle talk with crush (again, a show, but really cool)

mgm- tower of terror, lights motors action stunt show; i was very underwhelmed by rock'n'roller coaster. i had heard great things but i wasn't impressed and i normally hate upside down roller coasters. i thought it would be much wilder.

animal kingdom- the kilimanjaro safaris, primeval whirl. do not waste time waiting on line for kali river rapids. only go if the wait is short or if you're absolutely desperate to get wet.

my favorite restaurants:
whispering canyon cafe at wilderness lodge- very loud and raucousy but super fun

chef mickey's in the contemporary- the breakfast buffet there was awesome. tons of choices and lots of yummy desserts

other favorite experiences:
we did a private boat cruise for the fireworks show at magic kingdom "wishes". this was awesome. they take you out in a pontoon boat and show you around bay lake and seven seas lagoon. we also got to see the electrical water parade. then they park right in front of magic kingdom for the fireworks. they pipe the music into the boat so you don't miss anything. this is probably too expensive if you don't have a somewhat large group, but if you do try it, it's the best way to see the fireworks. no crowds after! plus it was for my mom's b-day so they had a cake and drinks on the boat for her.

fantasmic at mgm. we did this our last night there and it was the best night time show we saw. really unique and different. if you can call about the dinner package. you eat at one of 3 restaurants in mgm and then get a special ticket for fantasmic which lets you into a reserved seating area. without this you need to get there 1.5-2 hours in advance to get a decent seat.

one piece of advice- get to the parks early! get there exactly when it opens. you'll be able to do a ton of things, then leave when it gets really crowded around noon and come back at 4 or 5 to see more stuff.

also if you want to see illuminations at epcot get a spot early (or they have a boat cruise for that to) otherwise you won't be able to see and the show will seem really boring.

any questions please ask!!

Re: Official Disney thread

You already have MUCH of my Disney feedback. Maybe I should post my "official guide" here.

I have to agree.. do NOT go on mission: space twice in a row. WOW. We were effed up all day from that one.

About the Fantasmic dinner package, I don't really think it's worth it because the seats arent even good, they're off to the side! My advice? get some yummy food from world showcase at epcot, take the boat over, and sit and eat some great japanese food while you're waiting... It makes the wait seem not so bad.

I love the boardwalk...it's been a favorite for a while - aside from being a really nice resort, I love the location! You can walk to Epcot & MGM (there are boats there if you don't want to though).

You can't beat the selection of restaurants between the BW, beach & yacht club, swan & dolphin...they are all walking distance opposed to other isolated resorts with one or two restaurants and a food court.

The pool has a Keister Koaster (water slide) that adults can go on...I love that Chat Icon

The only thing I don't like is that the general store with drinks & stuff is on the boardwalk & not in the building and that there is no food court but they are not deal breakers for me since I enjoy everything else about the place.

Also, what's nice is that the boardwalk is not 'that' spread out compared to Key West...there is only one bus stop at the property opposed to Key West with 5 or 6.

We are going to be staying there in September and a I can not wait! Chat Icon

Re: Official Disney thread

Boardwalk is SO pretty, I've never stayed there (too much $$), but whenever we take the MGM boat we see it and it just look so idyllic! I can't wait to join DVC so I can stay in those villas.

Is it bad that I want to join DVC before I want to buy a real house?

Just wondering! Chat Icon
