OFFICIAL RULING FROM THE NYS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND THE FDA
Source
Except as specified in (a) and (b) below, live animals shall not be allowed on the premises of a food establishment.
a. Live animals may be allowed in the following situations if the contamination of food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles cannot result:
(1) Edible fish or decorative fish in aquariums, shellfish or crustacea on ice or under refrigeration, and shellfish and crustacea in display tank systems;
(2) Patrol dogs accompanying police or security officers in offices and dining, sales, and storage areas, and sentry dogs in outside fenced areas;
(3) In areas that are not used for food preparation and that are usually open for customers, such as dining and sales areas, service animals that are controlled by the disabled employee or person, if a safety hazard will not result from the presence or activities of the service animal;
(4) In areas that are not used for food preparation, storage, sales, display, or dining, in which there are caged animals or animals that are similarly restricted, such as in a variety store that sells pets or a tourist park that displays animals.

Actually, I do not recall having seen the actual ruling before and I'm on LIF every day.
BTW: I gotta tell you, Arnie is really opening my mind and my eyes to the cuteness of pit bulls and pit mixes.

Actually, I do not recall having seen the actual ruling before and I'm on LIF every day.
I only posted this a couple of days ago. I had originally posted it on another thread but then discussion ensued so I put it on a "clean" thread. I intend to keep this bumped with the hopes of possibly having it pinned up top that way anyone can refer to it as a reference.

I only hope with education, people can see it's not the breed but the deed that gives them a bad reputation. Unfortunately, PBs get so much bad press that it over shadows the good.

no offense, but i do not understand why you bump this everyday
since it got to be such a heated debate why not let it die for now??? bumping it only brings back memories of those crazy threads.
what i am trying to say i gues is why not just bump it when the topic comes up again????
as someone who has strong convictions, i have come to realize doing something like bumping a heat topic everyday wil only get people to resent the topic and feel as if you are shoving it down their throat

exactly - a law is a law, how can there be drama over that?
You'd think...... but by keeping the thread bumped, there will be no question and "back and forth) as to what is legal and what isn't (THATS where the drama happens)

Surprisingly it does not always make a difference.
I think this is really good information to keep at the top. The pet board does not have everyone visit everyday like other boards.

I love my dogs to pieces but do not feel the need to bring them everywhere with me - just an occasional Petco or Petsmart visit. They have never seen the inside of any other store and I don't imagine they ever will. Just not my style.
