Oh Boy, Fall Clothes

I don't know if anyone has the same issues, but I'm guessing a few of you do or have other problems buying clothes.

I LOVE summer clothing for DS--t-shirts and shorts. This wardrobe is perfect for him, no problems buying clothing--I can actually buy clothes and put them on him and that's that.

But I noticed Fall clothes are out when we went shopping yesterday. So the clothing is much more difficult. He refuses to wear button shirts (though he will wear polos with buttons snipped off). He refuses to wear sweaters (though he will usually wear fleece tops). And no jeans or pants that have many buttons in general or a zipper. So that leaves us with sweats.

All fine, but I feel like our choices are so limited in the cooler weather. He's switching schools, and I'll have to talk to his new OT about this and see if she has ideas for ways to handle it, but we really cannot put these clothes on him. It's as if he's in pain.

Just wondering if anyone else has clothing issues that are similar.

Re: Oh Boy, Fall Clothes

I make him wear button down shirt. So he gets used to it.

That's not his favorite.

Generally he wears long sleeve t-shirts. It's great!!! He just need to get used to the short sleeves/long sleeves switch and get to use again.

He does prefer sweats over pants but he deals with what I give him to wear.

He hates shoes in general. Summer shoes/sandals are an issue for about 1 month then he is OK.

Hats... he hates but we have those deals, no hat/no going out. But we learned that once inside we remove that hat right away. So he can "compromise" a bit.

I have not been able to make him wear gloves.

Long sleeve t shirts are GREAT.
I also believe that last fall I was able to get my DS some pairs of jeans with elastic all around the waist.
Check out Target. Im almost positive this is where I got everything!

What size is your DS?
I could look and see if my DS has anything that won't fit this fall and send it to you!

Thank you for the offer! DS is 3T now, and pants in that size will definitely fit him over the winter, though I may buy shirts that are 4T. And thanks--I had not seen the elastic waist jeans at Target, so I may try a pair of those and see if he'll wear them.

I guess I just need to give up the button shirts for the moment. Some are so cute, I guess it's more my expectation of what I'd like him to wear than a necessity at this point. Hopefully as his sensory issues fade, his aversion to button shirts will too. The only time it's a bigger issue is if we have a family event that is formal, though we made do with a long t-shirt under a vest last year for my nephew's baptism.

How about elastic waist cargo type pants? Target usually sells those for the fall, as does Children's Place, in a variety of colors.

I have it easier b/c I have a girl so we do a lot of dresses with leggings (not tights).
It's very frustrating especially when she says something is OK, we keep it, cut the tags out and then she never wears it and I'm stuck with it.

Walmart I think does elastic jeans for boys too, I just saw some at Kohls as well. Their cargos are elastic as well. It's the jumping beans line. They also have soft cotton style cargo pants at Kohls. Kind of like sweats but a little bit nicer. Maybe he'd like those.

YEp. CP had nice ones, you couldn;t tell the waist was elastic. Good for potty training or newly potty trained.

Re: Oh Boy, Fall Clothes

Try putting a white undershirt under the button down tops and the sweaters. Button down tops are not DS's favorites, but with an undershirt on, he will sometimes tolerate it.

Don't get me started on the pants. I bought the elastic waist cargo pants and he has a fit any time I try to put them on, and the boy is STRONG. I think the fabric is too stiff or something. He lived in sweats or soft, elastic waist pants all winter. That and his hiking boots - he refused to put his sneakers on at all. I had to hide them once the weather got warmer Chat Icon

Yes, try the undershirt under the button down. DS does not care too much for the "feel" of the fabric of button down shirts. I limit to "dressier" time for those shirts. Not all the time!
