oh boy.....I think I have a colic baby
I was using Similac Advance and thought she was ok until last nite when things got bad, she was screaming and crying from severe gas pain ( i think). ALL I wanted to do was CRY with her.
We are trying the Alimentum (sp?) and hope this will help it. Today she isnt better All she does is cry out of discomfort.

Re: oh boy.....I think I have a colic baby
We had to switch to a new formula and it made a huge difference. Also, we use Mylicon drops before each bottle and it seems to help alot. Have you tried them?

Re: oh boy.....I think I have a colic baby
I would have the ped. check her stool to see if she has a milk allergy. It never hurts to see. Ava was miserable on the Alimentum and Nutramigen, but the first bottle of Neocate we gave her, she was instantly better.

My DD is currently on Nutramigen. She did well the first 3 weeks she was on it. Now she is in so much pain from really bad gas. She has a milk protein allergy. Is Neocate less gassy for them? We are seeing the ped. tom. We think we might have to switch formulas.

Neocate is a hypoallergenic formula that does not have a milk base. The problem with Nutramigen and Alimentum is that they are still milk based. Neocate is amino acid based. As soon as we swithced Ava to Neocate, the gas stopped and never returned. It is, however, constipating because their bodies absorb it so easily. We just offset that by giving her some water.

Thanks for the feedback. I really feel that her milk allergy is so severe that amount of milk in the nutramigen is aggravating her. And now she is in so much pain from all of the gas. I have tried everything to help her but nothing seems to work. I know the ped. said switching to neocate was the next step. Does your daughter also have acid reflux?

We switched from Similac Advance to Good Start. The gassiness got better, but unfortunately, the colic stayed around until DD was 3 mos old.

Re: oh boy.....I think I have a colic baby
I heard Similac Advance does that. I had my DD on Enfamil Lipil with Iron and she was the same way. I switched her to Gentlease and she is so much better. You may want to try that.
GOODLUCK!!!

Yes, she did have acid reflux. She luckily outgrew it by 6 months. I didn't see an affect on the reflux from the formula, though.

Re: oh boy.....I think I have a colic baby
My DD Elaina has trouble expelling her gas...it was so painful for me to watch her because her face would turn red and grunt trying to push so hard! I kept her on Simolac Advance and within the last few weeks she has gotten a whole lot better...now she is embarrassing to take out because she is a pro at farting! I used the Mylicon drops a few times also - it improved but not a whole lot. My doctor said it takes a little while for babies bodies to adjust. Their system is still working out its kinks.
Are you sure it is the gas that's upsetting her? It tares me apart hearing her cry...hang in there!!

Deb....I put Ant on Nutramigen when he was 6 weeks and within 48 hours I noticed a difference. Give the new formula some time...hopefully you will see a difference. When she starts to scream, lay her on her back and pump her legs to her chest. I should relieve some gas bubbles..
I am here for you if you want to talk/vent.

Similac Advance made Andrew sooo uncomfortable.
We switched to Gentlease. Did your ped tell you to try the other formula?

Re: oh boy.....I think I have a colic baby
I feel for you Deb Nikolas was borderline colicy.. he cried for no reason a lot of the time and every night relentless from 6pm until 10pm he drove me out of my mind
But in retrospect, in his case his crying fits mostly stemmed from issues such as his reflux and sensitivity to the formula we started him on. I could kick myself for waiting so long to switch formulas for him, but once we switched him from Similac Advanced to Alimentum and also put him on Zantac for the reflux, he slowly became a much happier baby And we also used the Mylicon drops in all of his bottles becuase his gas was so severe..
For us I didn't notice a change immediately, it took at least 3-4 days before I could see any difference at all, so give it some time. I hope it helps Gianna and I hope you all find a lot of crying-free days and nights soon
I know how hard it is and how much you want to cry right with them, so try to hang in there!

SAme thing with DH's niece. Dr switched her to Good Start and everything is fine now. Try putting her cradle/bassinet in an incline and don't put her down flat for an hour after you feed her- that includes diaper changes.
Hope your little munchkin starts feeling better really soon!
