Oh, man...my poor best friend just called me in tears
Found out her ex DH got engaged. She doesn't want him back; she's just sad, which I think must be so natural. And she's alone, so she's very "why me? Why can he meet someone and not me?"
I can't believe someone told her right now, at work...where she went into the bathroom and cried. I wish the person (this person ran into him, out with the girl) had waited until later, maybe after school to tell her. (they're teachers.....)

Wow.. I just went through this with my best friend - only she found out that he got his gf pregnant. Its so hard, but they need to just hang in there. What they need the most right now are us- friends. The only thing we can do is just listen to them. This is something they can only overcome with time.

I just tried to make her laugh. I'm like, "Babe...he's HER issue now!" But she's upset because I guess the girl said that she would love to get married in church, but they probably can't unless his first marriage is annulled (not sure if that's true), which she doesn't want to do. They were only married one year, but I mean, it existed! She's so sad.....

I know its hard letting go. Maybe shes just not fully over him - whether she believes it or not. There could quite possibly be some feelings left.
I feel terrible for her. Afterall- that WAS her DH. They have a history together. Its only natural.

Re: Oh, man...my poor best friend just called me in tears
Im definitely dreading the day I find out the homewrecker and my ex get engaged and married! It's so hard...spend time with her and help her see she is not alone...the alone feeling is the worst. "He's happy...why not me"....so hard!!

At first when I read your original post - I felt extremely bad for her.
But...this remark about not wanting to get it annulled? Now me, a wife of a man who was previously married for one year (hmm...very similar!) would have found it to be pretty rude if his first wife didn't agree to the annullment.
Yes it was one year - but seriously - to not agree to an annullment?
Put it this way to her...Someday she'll meet the man that she's truly meant to be with - and maybe just maybe she'll want to get married in the church again. She'll already have the annullment in hand...no delays. Not to mention...I'm sure her Ex will pay for it in full...so not only does she not get delayed...she doesn't have to fork over the $1k to have it!

Re: Oh, man...my poor best friend just called me in tears
I hear you; I am sure she won't fight him on it--it's just that all the news hit her at once. I just sympathize with her, because right now the word annulled means her marriage is going to vanish as though it never happened, and that stings. She didn't want to get divorced; she wanted to go for counseling and he wanted no part of it, so...fresh wounds, you know?

I feel bad for her. I also do not think I would grant an annulment. Maybe the marriage was only a year, but I am sure they were together for a while. I just hate to say something never existed, when it did! Especially something that causes so much emotional distress. Also, I am speaking from the opposite side of the coin. I am divorced, but have remarried and now expecting a baby, while my ex hubby just broke up with yet another woman, and is doing the "why me" routine, what's ironic is he is the one that broke up our marriage and continually regrets it, but i am thankful because I would never have walked away from the mess that we were.
for your friend!
