OMG I can't believe this.

I opened up my mailbox today and saw a handful of MY OWN STDs STARING ME IN THE FACE

The envelopes are thick (cardstock and magnet inside), so I was worried about them getting caught in the mail machine. I waited on line at the post office and the woman at the counter told me she'd make sure they weren't ruined, she wasn't putting them through the machine, etc......WELL GUESS WHAT - they were put in the machine and obviously got caught ...the envelopes are torn, creased, smeared, and WORST OF ALL -

THE CLEAR MAILING LABELS MELTED OFF

So now I have a bunch of STDs that weren't delivered, but the bigger problem is that I don't know who got them and who didn't, because like I said, the address labels are gone.

It wasn't supposed to happen like this
I'm giving it until Friday- I'll see how many of them are returned to me, then I'll start asking around and making some phone calls to see who received and who didn't.

I'm so upset!

I now have to buy more envelopes (I should be able to get tiny white linen envelopes easily, right?), more postage, and hope for the best .

Yup - those postal employees lie, lie, lie. They put my wedding invites through the machine too.

Now wouldnt' be the time to tell you about numbering the back of the cards to correlate with a list of invitees, right? Just don't want this happening to you when you start getting your RSVP cards back with a yes & no name.

I would however go to the post office, get the supervisor, speak with him, and point out the lady who promised no machine. My friend just did this and they paid her postage.

And I've said it many times on LIW, because it happened to me and I was furious, but yes, hand cancelling is a huge waste of time.

ALL mail goes through the machines anyway. Regardless of how the stamp is cancelled.

This is because of the stupid barcodes that go on the envelopes.

And yes, please number your wedding invites.

but, like eva luna said, there are several machines that mail has to go through... SO, while hand cancelling keeps it from going through the stamp cancelling machine, they still need to go through sorting machines to get where they're going... so thats probably what happened to yours.
i would still take them back to the post office though and show them how ruined they got and maybe they'll at least give you new postage or something.... good luck!

I'm sorry, i should've mentioned that I went to the postmaster as soon as i received them...he said that its a shame and he's sorry, but no one did anything wrong, and there's nothing he can do.

Like Sasha said, every piece of mail goes through the barcode machine, and that's what ruined my envelopes.

I just had to jump on real fast and respond to this. I totally feel ya hon. I'm going through the SAME EXACT THING, but with my wedding invites. I had to resend my entire guest list 2x b/c I was ensured they would not go through the scanner, well I guess as soon as we walked out, they went right through the scanner and were DESTROYED!!!!!! My life has been nuts the last few weeks trying to rectify this. Everyone is calling screaming they weren't invited, blah, blah...it has been a mess!!! I had to resend some people another invite for the THIRD TIME!!!! Nobody at the USPS knows what happened!

My wedding is THIS SATURDAY and some people are still receiving their destroyed invites as late as THIS MONDAY!!!! UGH! At least you got your STD's back. My invites are somewhere in space....

Good luck. I'd resend the entire batch, and explain to people that question it what happened. Next time I get married, I'm hand delievering the invite
