Oh... one more thing... small concern from the dr....
Cailen is not moving his head enough to the right side - ped. is concerned that his muscles are weak in that area (which I find so ironic because he has such excellent head and neck control) - DH feels its because I always hold and feed him with the same arm...
He told us we should try and encourage him to turn his head to the rigt side... anyone else have this? Dr. says its pretty common, but if he doesn't develop strength there he may need some PT. I'm not too concerned because he seems so strong and is developing nicely, but any suggestions from moms who have gone thru this would be welcome...

Matthew had this...it is called Torticolis. If it didnt improve, he would have to go to a physical therapist.....It is the way they lay in your uterus and can be very common with twins. For Matthew it wasnt that bad, and it corrected it self as he got older.

Megan ALWAYS slept with her head towards the left. She never moved it to another position. We would move her and she would move right back. It had me concerned back then but now she is ALL OVER THE PLACE! I wish she would stay in one spot now! I am sure he will be fine!

My DS had torticolus too. Its no big deal. We did about 2 months of PT and he was fine. The PT just did some stretching exercises with him and positioned him so he would turn his head. There are no lasting effects.

Yes - thats the name - I couldnt remember - my mind was focused on the needles that was going to jab my baby shortly after he examined him....
Even in his birth pictures, he was totally turning his head to the left - I figure with just regular everyday movement it must resolve itself...
I'll just try and wave a toy to his right side to get his attention.... oh wait - wrong post!

Liza, this can happen during childbirth.
If it does not improve you might have to see a PT.

E had that too, slightly. She preferred one side. Our ped had us "stretch/massage" her neck a bit after a bath (when her muscles were warm and loose) and change up the side toys were on. She self corrected shortly after that.

Liza, I will show you how to "massage" him a bit in that area.

Re: Oh... one more thing... small concern from the dr....
DS had this. The doctor had us gently turn his head in the opposite direction a few times a day. It eventually went away. I do notice that Emma sleeps and sits in her bouncy and car seat with her head to the right, so I have been trying to turn it to the left, but she usually puts it right back.

DS favors one side also. He usually turns his head to the right. But he does move it to the left, just not as often. I will ask my ped. about this on Tues. at his next check up.

Re: Oh... one more thing... small concern from the dr....
My sister, who is a pediatric physical therapist, had this with her daughter. Every child favors one side, it just varies to what extent.
What she did was would play with DD and focus the item on DD's "weaker" side. When my sister would sit down and put her knees up and DD would rest on her legs, she would have us sit to the right of her so that DD would look at us from her "weaker" side.

I just tried it this morning with DH - Cailen is always staring at DH, and he was just moving his eyes and not his head... he would a little, but it looked so hard for him - eventually he gave up and just stared at the couch poor baby.... I even kiseed him on his other cheek to "push" his head over to the side a little (I go on kissing attacks with him!) and he whined a little - it must really be uncomfortable for him....
I'm sure this will resolve itself - I'm sure our generations of babies arent the 1st one with this and I never heard of this before - its not like we are all walking around with our heads turned in one direction!!!

Re: Oh... one more thing... small concern from the dr....
My DS did the same thing but too the left. My ped said not to worry and he was right. Eventually he turned it too the right and now is normal. I use to encourage him to look right and so on.

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking. I feel like dr.s are so over cautious about everything these days....
