oh teachers...i'm new....HELP!
I am done in DECEMBER!!!!! Today I went on my first substitute interview....
So what do you do as a sub? Do teachers provide lessons or are you there to just "hold down the fort"?
Also, did you mail resumes or just use the on-line services, or both?
I can't believe I a am finally able to look for a job, but I am clueless to how this works

Re: oh teachers...i'm new....HELP!
I always try to leave plans for my subs. I would think that most teachers do if time allows, but I would have something to go in case the teacher didn't (word search, Sudoku, etc.).
I interviewed a few years ago, and even back then, many districts were not accepting paper resumes - you had to use the on-line system. I got a few postcards back saying "thanks for the resume, but we only accept applications on-line". Pretty much every district uses the same on-line program. It's a PITA the first time (2 hours easily), but once you get it down, it goes faster as you are just typing the same info over and over.
Definitely register at teachli.org for Suffolk jobs.
Good luck!!

thank you for the response. I noticed that same type of on-line system to apply...you mean they are not linked? You need to enter the same infor for each school?
I also set myself up on Nassau Boces. Thank you for the suffolk link!

Most teachers will leave you plans. I tend to get a little OCD with directions for subs, but in the end, it is harder for the sub bc you dont know the kids. You will do great!!!

definitely not linked - which sucks because the applications are almost always the same! I perfected one, printed it out, and used that to fill out any future ones.
