OHSS - Lupron vs. HCG trigger just an observation
"Technically" I don't have PCOS but I do have PCO. This causes me to respond very well to the stims and to the possibility of OHSS.
My first IVF I stimmed 12 days, triggered with HCG and 28 eggs were retrieved. I felt like ish after ER. It was the absolute worst process of the IVF. When I woke up they had to put morphine in the drip. I was bloated, in pain, couldn't walk straight for a few days.
This time I stimmed for 9 days, triggered with Lupron and 29 eggs were retrieved. After ER I woke up and immediately felt great. I was a little sore yesterday but nothing that couldn't be handled. I'm at work today and feel fantabulous What a difference.

OHSS - Lupron vs. HCG trigger just an observation
interesting. I got both HCG and Lupron for trigger after stimming for 13 days and felt ok after waking up. but then the next 2-3 days were a bit tough as I couldnt straighten up cause of the really uncomfortable pain in my stomach. and I was REALLY bloated. I was told it was due to the high # of eggs retrieved - 27 - and the very high estrogen level I had.

Yup my estrogen went up to 6500+ but I feel fine today. It's crazy what a difference from last time. Did you end up getting OHSS?

You know, I have been following your posts because we have similar stories. The same thing happened with me. I don't have PCOS but PCO and triggered with HCG the first time. I got OHSS and was miserable for a week. This time I triggered with Lupron and I felt fine. I didn't have as many mature eggs as I did with the HCG, but to not feel that pain, I would do it again. Good Luck!

Yes but only if Lupron wasn't part of your protocol.
I didn't know about it the first time but wouldn't have been able to do it regardless since Lupron was involved in my protocol.

OHSS - Lupron vs. HCG trigger just an observation
i triggered with lupron and still got mild OHSS. its not foolproof but it absolutely helps. my e2 was really high at trigger (~5-6k) and we planned for a lupron trigger all along and it was definitely necessary.

Pretty much exactly the same for me.

Absolutely not foolproof. My E2 was close to 7K but Lupron did make a world of difference.

Re: OHSS - Lupron vs. HCG trigger just an observation
I have PCOS and did 4 IVF cycles. This may not be the case for everyone, but here is my story. My first 3 IVF cycles, I had many follicles and triggered with Lupron. In all three of those cycles, my estrogen was dangerously high. To be honest, I truly believe those cycles were not successful because of the high estrogen levels. During one of my cycles, my estrogen levels were over 9,000. I had minor OHSS one time and didn't feel great the other times either. Our embryos were never great and I now believe it was from the high estrogen. Also, although it is rare, there are times lupron doesn't work as a trigger. During my third cycle, the lurpon trigger failed and my whole cycle was basically lost. Hcg is more of a guaranteed trigger. For my last cycle, I switched doctors and my estrogen never went above 3,000. I triggered with hcg and felt great. To be honest, I was terrified to trigger with hcg because of everything my previous doctor had told me. It ended up being better for me and it was safe because of my estrogen level. He retrieved over 40 eggs and our embryos were much better than ever before. I never had OHSS even with the 40 eggs because of my estrogen level. OHSS is more connected with estrogen level than number of eggs retrieved. There are different protocols that can yield different results even in women with similar issues. I now have one year old twins from that cycle and embryos on ice.
I had to respond because I just want to share the other side.
To the OP, I wish you all the best and I'm thrilled to hear you are feeling great! I know many woman that were successful with PCOS and lupron, but it's not the best for everyone and there are ways to keep estrogen low in PCOS women while still retrieving many great eggs.
