Oil Pricing [12/23]
We currently are under contract with Slomin's at $3.05/gallon - locked last January 2008.
We get a call from Slomin's yesterday offering a deal for current customers who have contracts up within 30 days the following price = $2.449/gallon.
We also have a furnace contract with them for the maintenance of it that they said they would keep the same price as it was last year - I think it was $105.
Is this a good deal? Our furnace is beyond OLD and with the markey fluctuating, we don't want to be stuck paying higher for oil if it comes, but we also are afraid of being stuck with a high price if oil continues to dip....

Re: Oil Pricing [12/23]
You can get them down ot 1.99. I know someone there and if you are an existing customer they will go that low...maybe even lower now.

I called Petro and they said their computers were down and a Rep would call me with answers to my questions.
I absolutely hate doing this each year!

This is one of the reasons why I went with Heat USA.
I think all the major oil companies are in a "transition mode". They are afraid to drop their rate lock prices down in fear of the oil market going back up.
But I think it's going to be inevitable that these companies are going to have to come down in price. They will realize that more and more people will be leaving to do COD.
With the Heat USA... I get a free service contract... relatively cheap oil ($2.09 as of Tuesday)... and I can cancel at any time. I think it's a great "temporary" solution especially with the free service contract.
Once Slomins comes down more (I want to see $2.29 or lower), i'll probably sign back up with them. But until then they can go pound sand if they think I am going to sign one of their bloated rate lock deals. They need to see I mean business when I say they need to lower their prices.

Re: Oil Pricing [12/23]
I heard from Petro today.
Their contract is $105 (Premier).
Ceiling Plan is high of $2.66/gallon - won't pay more than this, but the current price for delivery under this plan is $2.23/gallon.
More than likely we're going to Petro. Their prices seem more reasonable and if the market keeps going down, we'll be at the advantage to get the lower price instead of being locked in at one price.

We have the exact same terms with PEtro. I still feel like we are getting robbed!

Your getting a good deal. I'm stuck in a contract w/General at 4.09 If I leave them then I lose my contract on my burner so I'm nervous to leave and then watch something happen. stinks

See I had issues with Heat USA. They use General Utilities in my area....b/c I didnt want to use them (Ive had a ton of issues with them in the past) They (Heat USA) tried to bait and switch me into going through them any way...
To the OP...Do the math...DH and I found that we were better off doing COD for our oil and paying for the cleaning once a year. My DH is beyond handy so if we really had an issue he could fix it....We compared scenarios and figure out that this worked best for us $$$ wise.

Re: Oil Pricing [12/23]
So guess who just called me!! SLOMIN'S --> to offer me $1.99/gallon for a year...
We were Slomin's customers last year and they screwed us royally over the summer when I was requesting a delivery at the end of our contract and they wouldn't deliver b/c we were on automatic and not scheduled for a delivery... I fought them tooth and nail and got nowhere - oil prices were high at the time so we moved on and did not resign with them for this year...
We're all kicking ourselves for the prices we signed at in the Fall only to see oil prices drop so much to where they are now... We are currently at a $3.89 cap plan and had a delivery about 2 weeks ago at $3.29 - still a very sucky price in today's oil market...
We are actually considering buying out our contract with Lewis Oil to take this deal - it might actually be worth the $ in the long run...Oh how much I hate them, but oh how nice a price $1.99/gallon is....

Please let me know about this. I called them today and their retention department was busy. They said they would call back. I would sign this in a hot second.

Re: Oil Pricing [12/23]
Since I'm a current customer they were only offering me $2.39/gal for 12 months.
I still think it's ok. I think we'll be looking at higher oil prices soon. I hope not, but it's $.60 lower than last year which is still a 30% savings. Their contract for my system is good too.
I'm going to try to get them lower but I have a feeling that I won't be successful.
