Oil to Gas Heat Conversion $$
I just got a quote from Keyspan to perform an oil to gas conversion in my house for heating. The quote is for $6200 and includes adding a second zone to the house. By the way, this price does not include an extra $1200-$1500 to put a new liner in my chimney. So all total we are lookin at about $8000. Does this sound normal?? There must be a cheaper way to do this.

Re: Oil to Gas Heat Conversion $$
4+ years ago when we had ours done it was around $5000 + $1500 to install the chimney liner. that price included the removal of our undreground tank and filling in the hole.
Let me know if you want to name of the guy we used for a 2nd estimate

Re: Oil to Gas Heat Conversion $$
We've had 2 estimates so far. We already have gas service to our house for our stove.
One for $4800 and one for $5600. We already have 2 heating zones, price also includes removal of old oil burner and new gas burner.
ETA: Our oil tank is in the crawl space in our garage so we're just having it pumped out and leaving it sit there.
We also already have baseboard heating, so we didn't need that installed either.

Re: Oil to Gas Heat Conversion $$
We paid a little less than that because we were able to convert our boiler (I think?) to be gas fired, so we didn't need a whole new one. The original price for everything new was going to be a total of around $8k (including liner) but I think we ended up around $6k.
ETA: See if you can have the chimney liner changed by a separate company. We used Slomins for the conversion but they wanted like $1200 for the chimney work, and by doing it with a regular chimney company it was only like $800 or $900.

Re: Oil to Gas Heat Conversion $$
We just did an oil to gas conversion (already had a gas line for our stove) and also switched from forced hot air to baseboard which gave us a second zone upstairs. I was VERY pleased with the results - we used the Burner King. We got a quote from Keyspan that was $3000 higher. FM for pricing. I highly recommend them.
Good luck!

Re: Oil to Gas Heat Conversion $$
We spent a little under $6K but FIL did alot of the pipe work. The oil tank was under our stairs and had to be removed. DH & FIL built a room in the garage for the new gas burner and hot water tank. They did a lot of leg work themselves and then we hired a plumber to come in and remove the oil tank and install the other stuff. I don't think that quote you got was too far off from what it would have been if DH & FIL didn't do a lot themselves.

I received just about the same quote. Looking for cheaper way also.
