ok - regarding SIDS (& bedding)
What do you do - just get sheets, and have the baby sleep in one of those cute little swaddle outfits to stay warm?
Also, what about bumpers along the side of the crib? Not necessary until they are moving around? I know they are there to prevent heads bumping into the bars - but are they risky to babies?

I am going to use the bumpers, I know many people who used them and had no problems, some people decide not to use them, it is a personal choice
As far as bedding, yes, you just use a fitted sheet in the crib

Re: ok - regarding SIDS (& bedding)
When Connor was an infant I would put a blanket on him since he wasn't moving around or I would us the swaddle me.
As he got older we used a sleep sak and now I do Cotton PJ's with fleece PJ's over them.
We have always had bumpers in the crib. Even now at 18 months they are still in there. Connor never bother with them,

Gianna's bumpers are still in. I never put a blanket on her, she likes to kick it on her face and now she moves aroung too much.
during the warm months i put her to bed in cogtton pjs. now that's it's chilly, she goes to bed with heavt terry cloth or fleece pjs with the cotton halo sleep sack. She stays warm and toasty

Re: ok - regarding SIDS (& bedding)
MIL has already bought us a few of those Swaddle Me blankets, which I am going to use.
Our bedding set comes with a bumper. I am thinking that I will not use it until she is moving around enough to hurt herself.
I am very anxious about SIDS. My mom's best friend's daughter died of it, so maybe knowing someone who lost a child makes it more real to me. I registered for the Angel Care monitor, which has a sensor that sounds an alarm after 20 seconds if no movement. It's also one of the reasons why I am thinking about putting her in a co-sleeper for the first few months.

We just took our bumpers out at 7.5 months as we found our DD with it over her head on her neck

Re: ok - regarding SIDS (& bedding)
I am not even bothering with bedding. I got those breathable bumpers and little sleep sacks. No one is going to really see the crib anyway, so if I wasn't going to use the bedding, I could not see spending $$$$ on it.

Re: ok - regarding SIDS (& bedding)
we had to take out the bumpers in hannah's crib since the top part of the mattress is elevated and she tends to wiggle her way to the side. i found her with her face in the bumper during a nap one day . we bought a breathable bumper but it did not fit on our crib.
hannah hates the swaddle. i have a few pink ones. if you have a girl you can have 'em!

This is what I did. When my first was too small to move [and yes, I stayed up all night once to be sure], I did cover her up with a thin blanket...just for the layer. I made sure of one thing though, I used a LARGE blanket that I could tuck under her mattress on both sides...and i didn't put it past her belly. The best part of course is that with all this caution, as she learned to roll over and move later on, I would go to get her up in the morning only to find her hunched up in a ball face down. My mom says I used to do the same thing.

Re: ok - regarding SIDS (& bedding)
With our DS, we didn't use any bumpers, and kept him in the sleep sacks. We got up quite a few times in the middle of the night, just to hand him the pacifiers he kicked out of his crib!
With our DD, we got the breathable bumpers (I'm not endorsing them, but this is the one we got: Breathable crib bumper )
I've also read that some kids use the bumpers as a step to help them climb out of the crib, so even if they are past the age where they can suffocate, they can still get hurt with them in the crib.

Re: ok - regarding SIDS (& bedding)
I've had bumpers in since the very beginning. NEver used a blanket or the comforter that come with the set....maybe later on.
She's a hot natured baby, so she slept in pjs only. Didn't like being swaddled either

Re: ok - regarding SIDS (& bedding)
Its not really SIDS that the bumpers are blamed for it, it is suffocation.
That being said, my parents had bumpers in my crib. I did have a cousin die of SIDS, but they were co-sleepers, and it didn't have anything to do with bumpers.

Re: ok - regarding SIDS (& bedding)
I am taking no chances. I only use the breathable bumper and the breathable sheet. I use the sleep sacks for Andrew. Never a blanket.
