OK - Second Thoughts on Flying - WWYD - Drive or Fly?

OK, I'm driving myself crazy now - having second thoughts driving or flying. Hear me out and tell me WWYD - thanks!!

DH is leaving for NY on Wed 6/15 and is planning on arriving on Friday, 6/17. I figured if he was driving,he'd save a night in a hotel and just stay one night overnight since he wouldn't have me or baby with him, but he said he does not want to drive 12 hrs a day by himself. So, not really saving money because trip will still be two nights in hotel, whether we are with him or not.

I have a Jet Blue credit as well as a lot of True Blue points, so the flight wouldn't come out of my pocket now, although it is credit/points that I would be taking away from a flight at a different time.

I know I'm being silly, but I'm having second thoughts about flying - won't get to go to the outlets I like in Georgia and NCChat Icon won't spend those days with DH but also, won't have to deal w/3 days in a car with an almost 17 month old!

WWYD??

Thanks!

If you are breaking up the trip, I would drive. For me, the thought of flying ALONE is enough to scare me into a car...but that's just me. I have PLENTY of friends who have flown peachy keen with their babies.

PS...outlets and fun family memories...I would drive.

ETA: I base my thoughts on the fact that Bella travels well. That would affect my decision as well.

I would drive, but my kids have always been great on road trips.

Re: OK - Second Thoughts on Flying - WWYD - Drive or Fly?

Kell - as you know, we did the drive last year with Jordan at almost 5 months old - of course it's do-able, but it was rough - even though we broke up the trip - it's long. My concern is that he'd tolerate so many hours in the carseat much less now than he did as an infant - so we'd have to stop more often, let him stretch his legs, etc. I always have the option of driving back down in August and hitting the outlets, etc - I was just thinking of now for the way up. Don't get me wrong, I'm a little nervous for the flight because I've never flown alone with him, but I told myself that worse case, it's a horrible flight or he's a terror, it's for a much shorter period of time than a three day car ride.

Definitely fly - it's so much easier!

We just went to SC - DH drove down a couple of days early and DS and I flew.

It was hard enough entertaining an active toddler on the plane and in the traffic from the airport to home yesterday - I can't imagine a couple of days in a car with him!

I would fly! It's such a short flight vs. hours confined in a carseat...

Drive

I took AJ to Texas at 9m and to IA just a month ago.

Driving is fun, she got to see a lot at the stops we made. Forced stops were good for us. She was easily occupied with a DVD player and/or games, toys etc. And she slept a lot. I'd do it again in a heart beat.

And I most likely WILL in Oct. Chat Icon

ETA: no.. with a dog? Nope I'd fly. Sorry but one kid is enough for me to think about while driving.

PS: We got photos of AJ in every single state she's crossed so far hahaha great fun

Re: OK - Second Thoughts on Flying - WWYD - Drive or Fly?

I would drive, esp since you're going up for the summer right? You can take your time, take turns driving, stop over 1 night or 2, make it a mini vacation.

I hate flying (but we always fly b/c our visit is usually only a week or less) and really don't mind that drive at all. If DH would, I would drive every time but he hates it.

We are going up in July and flying up all together but DH has to go back early to work and i'm staying the week so Sienna and I may drive back with his parents if the timing works out.

OK, I just booked the tix! Was scared the flight price was going to go up! I still have the option of doing the three day drive back from NY to FL in August if I decide to do that!

I <3 road trips!! Save the credit for a different trip, DH is already driving. I'm flying with DD next week, but i'd be so much more relaxed if I was in a car with someone else to help.
