OK, D&C ladies...lay it on me...
I am having the procedure done most likely Friday and I'm freaking the hell out!
My main question is what is the general anesthesia like? I'm petrified I'll be one of those people who's "under" but can feel everything, yet not be able to communicate. I know this is almost impossible, so what's it really like?

I didn't have one with my MC but I had something similar when I had fibroids removed a few years ago (they referred to it as a D&C).
It really wasn't bad and the anesthesia worked wonderfully. You will be fine.
The recovery was not horrible; I had pain medication and was able to sleep a lot. I know you have other kids so maybe make sure DH or family is around to help out

Re: OK, D&C ladies...lay it on me...
I'm sorry that you're going through this
I've had general anesthesia a few times and it always surprises me. One second you are alert & talking to the people in the OR and the next you wake up in a bed in a different room 30+ minutes later. It's bizarro. I honestly wouldn't worry too much about feeling anything, I don't think that happens that often When I had my d&c that was my experience...I believe that I woke up about 30 min. later in recovery. You'll be groggy for a bit when you get out of it, but they'll give you a drink & something to eat to get your energy back up again. Once you're alert they'll release you (I think that I was there about an hour after my d&c, but I'm not 100% sure).
As for the recovery, I found it to be like the pp said...I just took otc Motrin though & slept a lot for then next few days. Overall the procedure itself wasn't so bad for me...it's everything else that got to me
Good luck

I have had general anesthesia for a d&c and a couple of other procedures. MY experience has been, I fall asleep and wake up after it's done and I felt nothing. Last time I had it I told the anesthesiologist it was the best sleep I ever had and I told him if I was an anesthesioglosit I'd never leave my bed.

don't worry, you won't feel anything. In fact, the 30 seconds right before you go out is my favorite, where you still are kind of awake but feel "good".

i had the same concern... when dh had teeth extracted the second time he wasnt completely out.... BUT they give you more for a D&C then for a tooth problem.... I rember asking my doctors how it works- you dont even realize your being put out, and you wake up without any dreams or anything kind like a blink of a eye

I sound like a druggie, but general anesthesia is awesome. Best sleep of my life. You won't feel or remember a thing.
Good luck tomorrow.

Re: OK, D&C ladies...lay it on me...
the anesthesia was completely fine! I was out in no time, when they were giving it to me she just told me she was putting in the IV of fluids to keep me hydrated so I was grateful I didn't know I was about to be out so I didn't freak out, I just started fading out like I was really really sleepy. I woke up on my own b/c it just wore off, I was in a recovery room and they gave me water right away, as you feel less dopey you just get up and get dressed. good luck when you go in this week!
