OK i AM CAVING QUICK! iM GOING TO THE PETSTORE
i WILL get killed...my dh willllllllllll kill me..so when I am gone u know who did it.. I have to have a african gray! i have always wanted one. I justify it like this..I asked him to do IVF 1 more time--he said no so.. I can get my bird and their vocabulary is on a 5yr olds level. He won't understand the logic but whatever. Anyhow---if he can buy a bunch of chicks in the spring I am buying my bird. Now..I cann get it today...or wait until he goes to florida for a week and the viola! surprise! the latter is def better. We will see what the parrot shop brings me today. ok..I am rambling.

Wow, kudos to you for taking on such a big committment! We found one in our shrub years ago and debated keeping it if the owner didn't show up to claim him. But then I read up on them. About how much time they need outside a cage, how much attention they need to be happy and not "act out", how they can outlive their owners, etc. and we decided against it.
Do you have other birds now and everything you need to bring one home?

I totally agree with this. Birds, especially large birds need lots and lots of attention. African Greys in particular. They also only tend to bond to one person in a household. If don't have the time to devote to it especially in the beginning, wait until you will have the time. Birds can be such a joy, and I miss having them!

Re: OK i AM CAVING QUICK! iM GOING TO THE PETSTORE
My husband came with an African Gray....She is a lot of work. and its very true about them bonding to one person.
She barely tollerates me. She lets me give her treats but thats all i'm good for. She only wants my husband.
And i wasn't aware they could out live us...Shes in big trouble if i'm left to take care of her.
