Ive read a lot of great books but the one book i recommend to everyone is - PS I Love You by Cecelia Ahern - it was an amazing book that has been passed on to many girlfriends who all felt the same - it is funny and sad definitely check it out
Nanny Diaries was hysterical I love Anita Shreve - The Pilots Wife, the Weight of Water, and the Last Time They Met - were all really good Jennifer Weiner is also good

Henry & June ~ Anais Nin (she's one of my favorite writers - I love her honesty and rawness)
The Unbearable Lightness of Being ~ Milan Kundera (a philosophical look at life)
Wicked ~ Gregory Maguire (loved the fantasy take on life prior to what we know as the Wizard of Oz)
The Time Traveller's Wife ~ Audrey Niffenegger (a beautifully complicated love story)

I know it's old, but I thought it would be a good one to bump.
The Virgin Suicides (Jeffrey Eugenides)- I love the way that Euginides tells the story about these girls through the perspective of the neighborhood boys who loved them. Also, he makes the mundane seem beautiful.
One Hundred Years of Solitude (Gabriel Garcia Marquez) - It's like a big surrealist painting done in words. Though it's the kind of book that you either love or hate.
Love in the Time of Cholera (Gabriel Garcia Marquez) - A love story spanning decades; not exactly conventional. I think that anyone who loves OHYS will love this one, too.
White Noise (Don DeLillo) - It's just fantastic, plain and simple.

Watcher Dean Koontz-This is one of my favorite books ever. i read it a long time ago so not sure if I would still find it appealng-I should read it again.
The Stand Stephen King-loved this book but its about 1300 pages.
Those are the two that stick out in my mind. I have probably read 3,000 books so I can't remember a lot of them

Running with Scissors - Sad and uplifting at the same time The Kite Runner - Sad story with highlights of hope I Know This Much is True -- I loved this book so much. I truly felt like I *knew* the characters. She's Come Undone -- Could relate. Lovely Bones -- Scary, sad and exhilirating.

Re: Ok I need your....
fave books ever, hmmm...
Well, since the PP poster recommends John Irving, I am going o say that my favorite book of his was definitely Son of the Circus
Some of my most favorite, have to re-read once in a while and own a copy books are
Count of Monte-Christo by A Dumas. Beautifully written, facinating story and characters, I read it first when I was 13 and i still love that book to death.
Three Comrades by E M Remarque. Tragic story of love and live set in post WWI Germany
The age of Innocence by E. Wharton. I think everyone knows that one.
The Ladies' Paradise and Doctor Pascal by E Zola. Depiction of live in Imperialist France. I love Zola, but those are my 2 faves.
Anything by Agatha Christie. She is not considered the best mystery writer just for nothing!
