Ok, I needed to up my calories!
So I have been on a 1200 calorie per day diet for about 6 days. Tonight I hit a wall and got a headache and was starving...I did some research and I figure I can still lose weight if I try to maintain a 1400-1500 calorie a day diet.
Just curious as to how many calories everyone eats. I know it depends on height/weight etc.
I sort of feel like I failed at this diet already!

Re: Ok, I needed to up my calories!
According to My Fitness Pal, I get 1540 calories a day without exercise. I am doing the "couch to 5K" program, so on the days I run (3 times a week), I get an extra 200 calories or so. This was based on my choice of losing 1 lb per week (you can select weight loss of up to 2 lbs per week, but I didn't want to be overly restrictive with my calories, which would make it harder for me to stick to it).
It seems to be working - I had lost 6 lbs the first 3 weeks I was on it, but gained some back during a weeklong vacation (when I wasn't tracking my food intake at all). I have been back to tracking for a little over a week and have lost another 1 lb.
For context - I am 5'7" tall - I have about 10 lbs to lose to get back into the healthy weight range for my height, but I am aiming to lose 20 lbs to get to the weight that is "normal" for me (which is in the middle of the healthy weight range for my height and I know I can maintain).
You shouldn't feel like you are failing! Weight loss is a trial and error process -- and it is a PROCESS. Sometimes you have to tweak what you are doing to make it work for you. I think you should feel good that you are doing that!

You made me feel much better! I am also on myfitnesspal.com and I orginially had a goal of 2lbs per week, which is not reasonable for me. BTW I am also 5'7" and would like to lose 20lbs! At this height it is weird because most people would not call me fat by any means, but I am about 2 sizes larger then I should be and I definetly do not look as good in a bathing suit (or jeans for that matter!).

You sound exactly like me - we are probably around the same weight! (But I would never post it - esp. since I post under my real name and business account - ha!). Good luck with it.

Re: Ok, I needed to up my calories!
i am on my fitness pal and eat 1200 calories a day plus i eat back my exercise calories. exercise calories are anywhere from 200 to 600 per day. at 1200 i did feel weird (dizzy) so i made sure my food was more nutritious (whole grains, vegetables, protein). I have since felt a lot better. I have lost 15 pounds with my fitness pal in about 8 weeks.

Ok, I needed to up my calories!
On MFP I am set to 1200 a day, but most days I go over that. I'm still losing, even if it IS a small amount (.9 this week).
