OK I'm a spaz - what I am doing wrong?

I'm new at this feeding the baby solids stuff and it always seems I'm feeding her when she's full or starving. When do you feed them?

This morning I gave her a bottle at 7 when she woke up and then tried to give her cereal at 9am, but she didn't really want much. If I give her the cereal first, she's so hungry she cries through it. Same for dinner. What am I doing wrong?

hmmm...sounds like you're doing it right. Maybe wait until 9:30?

also, sometimes I would give Steven 1/2 his bottle then the food, then the rest of the bottle. You can try that too.

Sounds like you are doing it right, I would just keep trying it, move the cereal back 15 mintues or so and try again. Not sure what else to suggest other then keep offering it to her.

We have the same problem since we started solids! I do the same as you - feed a bottle at 7, then they go back to sleep. When they get their next feeding at 10 - I give them their solids, they either play or I dress and bathe them - then their ready for their bottle. I found that helps if there is a gap between. The food definitely doesn't hold them for 3 hours!

Ava was the same way in the beginning - didn't really understand it and would cry for her bottle. You can try what she suggested - do half bottle first...I learned to just get her in the right mood now right before she eats. Now she doesn't cry she yells at me to get the spoon to her mouth faster. I swear she eats a container of fruit or veggies in less than 2 minutes.

my dd was the same way. just keep doing it like you are. spread the bottle and the food out by an hour or so. she just might not be ready for the cereal yet. just keep trying every day or every other day. she will soon catch on. no worries.

I also wanted to suggest thickening the cereal. My friend saw me feeding Ava and said it was too thin and she thickened it and she enjoyed it more like that.

When I first started on solids I would do the cereal first then the bottle but then DS would start crying because he wanted his bottle. He kept doing that at every feeding so then I just switched it and gave him the bottle first.

Try it that way...

At first we went back and forth between bottle and cereal. As soon as he'd fuss, we'd give him his bottle for a minute. Now he finishes his cereal and then gets his bottle. We don't space it out.
