OK, ladies - help walk a newbie through this...
I figured this wuld be fun, and maybe be a good link to help out TTC moms...
Again - I am not TTC yet, but the recent weirdness has inspired me to really figure out my body and the inner workings of all this woman stuff, so heres what I want to do....
I want to have an unoffical monitoring of my body in the next few months, so when 09 rolls around and we put more thought into TTC, I have a better idea of what that pang is, what that spot is, what this cramp is, etc...
So heres what I want to do - I have AF now. Once AF is done, I want to check out my CM, take my temp, and also follow an online fertility calendar to see how it matches up.
I just have a few questions - what type of thermometer do I use? Do I take my temp orally?
I know you are supposed to check everything the same time everyday - does that mean temp AND CM? CM you check by going to 3rd base with yourself after you poop, right? Sorry for the TMI, but I need to know for sure....
If anyone wants to "play" then please do!
I got my AF officially - after a few days of brown spotting - on Saturday evening Aug 23....
EAT - what "day" would I be considered at this point?

cd1 is the day you first needed a pad/tampon....full flow is considered cd1.
a basal body thermometer is what you need. a regular thermometer is not enough.
you have to take it at the same time every day before MOVING around. I keep mine next to me on my nightstand and just roll over and do it.
CM can be checked at any time. I check it on the TP personally.

WHAT is basal body tempertura exactly?
what kind of thermometer do you use and where do you... ahem - stick it?

I'm going to hit you. Your questions are not stupid!
1. Basal body temperature is the body temperature measured immediately after awakening and before any physical activity has been undertaken. You measure this every morning with an oral thermometer specifically meant to test BBT. You can do it vaginally but I just used an oral one. I would test about the same time every morning as soon as the alarm went off.
You can and should check cervical mucous throughout the day. It can and will change. It may be creamy in the morning and then afternoon it's eggwhite.
Fertilityfriend.com has a really good tutorial. I recommend this. I took the tutorial when I was first TTC and it really helped me.
I would consider you to be on CD3 because even though you started at night, you needed a tampon on Sat.

You can buy a basal body thermometer at any pharmacy. They sell them specifically for that. (I found one at CVS)
You use them orally.

First, I'll link you to this thread which is a good place to start - if I do say so myself!
A basal thermometer measures your waking temperature. You can temp orally or vaginally. Personally, I temp orally and haven't had a problem thus far with my results.
You need to temp at the same time every morning before moving, talking, anything! You can use fertilityfriend.com to enter in your temperatures each day and it will create a chart for you. It will be able to tell you if/when you ovulate based on your temps.
Like Jess, I check CM on the TP - and find that I see more of it after going #2. If you feel comfortable, you can check internally by the cervix for CM. You'll want to record those on fertilityfriend as well.

Re: OK, ladies - help walk a newbie through this...
just wanted to add that if you are on BCP (not sure if you are), that will affect your temps and CM.
i temped for about 6 months and it was the best thing i ever did. i learned so much about how my body works. i also read the book Taking Charge of your Fertility. not sure if you want to go that far but i found it helpful and i only read the chapters that pertained to me at the time.

I actually never took any type of BCP! I never even had a surprise pregnancy until I was 32!!!!
