Ok.. Need input.. Pediatric ENT
So AJ's 15mo visit (yeah she's 14mo - whatever)
I asked for a hearing test due to my hearing loss being genetic. They said wait to 15mo, so today they say...
We see you wanted to do the hearing test, generally we dont recommend that for children this young, unless they have chronic ear infections which is possible with daycare. However, if you want to do this due to your genetic condition we should advise you they may need to sedate her (said in an almost threatening tone like "do you want to do that to your child?)
So then she checks her ears.. Guess what????
Oh yeah honey FLAMING double ear infections! *sigh* AGAIN!
My kiddo then gets down on the floor and walks around yipping, yapping, babbling and enjoying herself as I get the lecture.
Well, you need to see a Pediatric ENT. As soon as possible. She needs a hearing test and will most likely need tubes in her ears. They may or may not need to sedate her, you should do a consult. (wow how that tone changed) This is very important and should not be ingored (ummm I dont think i was ignoring this?). Chronic Ear infections can lead to menigitis and/or hearing loss.
So.. now I've made an appt. consultation and hearing test will be in Dec.
Call me crazy but I think i ASKED for this sorta knowing it would be a problem.
Anyone have experience with this? How does this hearing test go?
I had tubes put in twice, both failed. I recall as far back as I can remember (so young its just bits and pieces and I can say i dont know my age) those very painful tests, horrible experience that nurtured my claustrophobia, painful ear drops, tears of pain and constant ear infections. Ugh my inner ear hurts just typing it out. All for nothing, I'm still deaf (partially). I know science has come a great distance.
Tell me.. what can I expect?
TIA

Re: Ok.. Need input.. Pediatric ENT
DS had a hearing test a few months ago...right after he turned 2. They put me in a booth with him and had some kind of drum in both corners of the booth making different sounds and tones. DS would turn his head toward the sound. Totally non-invasive. Not sure if they would do the same kind of test with your DD but having had chronic ear infections when I was younger which results in hearing problems as a child (seems you had a similar experience), I would definetely take her to an ENT.
Not sure wher eyou are located but we see Dr. Mendohlsen (sp?) in Garden City. So do a few others mom's on here.

Thanks for the info
They said normally they wait until older so they can handle commands and have SOME attention span. I think it may be ok. I hope. That procedure makes sense.
Thanks for the recommendation, but I moved to Texas in June
