Ok, raise your hand if you are like me...
and still haven't gotten your child baptized at the ripe old age of almost 10 months. I'm so busy that this has been the last thing on my mind, but with Ava's b-day creeping up on us, I've realized that many people in my extended family have never met her because that's usually done in our family at a Christening. Bad mommy

If you're bad than I'm even worse. We're not having a baptism at all because I'm Jewish. So a lot of people in my family have never seen the baby and probably won't until his first b-day.

Wait, now, totally different! There's no expectation that you'd get him baptized So, put that hand back down

Do you think you will baptize her before or after her first birthday? Or do it around the same time and have a joint party?

I was about to say that. I am Jewish so no baptizing here but I do know a few people that did a baby naming and first B-Day party at the same time

Can I be quite honest? I don't care if I ever get her baptized. It's moreso that I want my sister and BIL to be Ava's real godparents. That's the ONLY reason I am baptizing her. We are not religious at all. I just don't want my sister and BIL to be insulted that we asked them to be godparents, then never got her Christened. Plus, I think my grandmother is about ready to have a heart attack. I guess I could do a joint party. I never thought of that. Good idea!

Christopher wasn't baptized until he was 10 months old. There was just a lot going on in our lives and we had trouble finding the time.

I thought I was really late...it's in two weeks. She is 6 mos. I don't really see the big deal with doing it in the first few months anyway!

Yeah, but we didn't have a briss either. DH is Catholic, I'm Jewish and we're not planning on having any religious ceremonies at all- much to our family's chagrin.

I've seen kids walk up to the alter to be baptized. I was going to say if you really want her baptized then just have immediate family. Then have a party for her b-day.

I agree. My SIL didn't baptize my nieces until they were 3. Come to think of it, my nephew is 3 and he isn't baptized yet!

Re: Ok, raise your hand if you are like me...
Hannah wiill be almost 5 months when she gets baptized. However we are NOT doing a party. I'm only having our parents and the godparents and we will take them out to lunch.
We considered doing a party, but the invite list was over 85 people. Our families are not religious and we don't really have the money.
So most of our extended family won't meet her unless we have decide to have a BBQ over the summer and they take the trip (we live an 1.5 hours away from LI)

I didn't do a party for Steven's baptism and there are lots of family members that never saw him.
IMO, if they want to see him, they can come to see him. Why do I have to throw a party for them to see him?

Re: Ok, raise your hand if you are like me...
well aly is almost 9 months.and we finally just set a date...im in the same boat as you..i mean i went through all the sacraments. but im not really religious at all..which probably KILLS my mom..so im doing it for everyone else..plus aly.because its a pain in the butt to get married or become godparents without even being baptized..so its more for her to not have to deal with the crap later on.
*oh and i do want her to have some sort of base of religion..she could always make her own mind up later in what she believes..WHO KNOWS

Re: Ok, raise your hand if you are like me...
DD will be 7 months when she is baptized.... i'm worried i won't be able to find a baptism dress to fit her! Neither my husband nor I practice. In fact, DH is not even baptized. It is for that reason that I want to baptize DD- DH comes from a Christian tradition but hasn't been indoctrinated and this has caused problems when it came to our marriage and also DD's baptism (his brother wasn't baptized and cannot be DD's godfather).
Oh -edited to add- we are doing a big party so everyone can meet DD but we are NOT doing a big 1st birthday- that will just be my friends w/ their kids... nothing crazy..

Re: Ok, raise your hand if you are like me...
I am embarrassed to say that we still have not had them baptized. Where the heck did the time go???!!!
My dh and I had some issues on who was going to be god parents. I wanted my brother and wife and he wanted his friend. I didn't want a big production, he did (with no help of planning it or anything) - so we are at a stale mate.

Guilty as charged.
We are really not that religious nor we belong to any church, whenever we decide is to shut our family's mouths.
