OK seriously, how long does the whole day/night confusion thing last?

or am I doing something wrong?

Gavin's last bottle is usually around 8PM and he's pretty good, he'll sleep until almost 2AM!
However, he is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when his bottle is done and the whole process can take 2 hours or more....Chat Icon

Am I doing something wrong? The same thing happens when he's up around 5:30-6 for his next feeding....

HELP!!!

Chat Icon It WILL get better, eventually!

I'm sure you do this, but do you keep the lights off and try not to interact with him during those middle-of-the-night feedings? It's hard, but try not to talk to him really or anything, and keep the TV off, the lights off, etc. I'm sure you've tried it, but this made all the difference to us with our DD when she finally decided to flip the day/night confusion switch!

8pm - 2am is a good stretch of time, so that might be all the sleep he needs at that point.

but definitely try to keep everything dark and quiet for the 2am feeding.

ok weird question...is he taking less naps all of a sudden during the day?
I found out that if they nap less during the day at that age in my book they sleep poorly at night..is he in a poor sleep pattern during the day?

Sorry, I didn't even HAVE my coffee yet! Gavin won't stop crying this morning...

OK, he gets a bottle around 8PM because if he gets one any earlier he doesn't seem to sleep as long (if he gets one at 7, he'll be up before midnight).
he usually falls asleep about an hour after the 8PM bottle. Fusses sometimes to go to sleep in his crib....
He wakes up around 1:30-2AM and after he finishes his bottle he is so awake and it takes me forever to get him to go to sleep.

He sleeps like an angel during the day and DH and I say "why can't you sleep like this at night?"

The WHOLE DAY is pretty much one big nap!!!!

He's usually up in the morning around this time, but because we are doing so much work on our house we usually let him sleep. Chat Icon I know, we're bad parents, but that's just the way it is right now.

He's also up around 4PM or so. He is awake about 4-5 hours in the daytime.....

He's not even 5 weeks old yet...let him adjust...and you're not bad parents at all...he needs his sleep now and for the next weeks he'll adjust to where he is sleeping less during the day and more at night. Use this time to finish up your house and take care of yourselves.

It'll fall into place like pieces of puzzle...trust me, we've all been there. It takes time and patience...you'll get used to itChat Icon As long as your little one is a content, happy and healthy baby, thats all that should matter now.
