OK- so I'm selling a dining room set on Craigs List ....
And this is the response from someone that I received today  Hasnt seen the set, have never even spoken to this person, except for an e-mail asking me if it was still available...

Thanks for the prompt response and i will love to make an instant purchase, so please and please do withdraw the advert from Craigslist, i dont mind adding an extra $50.00 for you to take the advert down from craigslist so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the item. I will also like you to know that i will be paying via check,and it will be over night payment due to the distance. You dont need to bother yourself with the shipment ok,i will do take care of that. So i will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check.
1. Your full name
2. Your mailing address be it residential or postal address
3. Your Phone Number.
Once again, I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping...i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check. Thanks.

Do NOT do what this person is asking.. this is pretty much the exact wording a friend of mine got when she was selling tickets on craiglist (reworded for furniture purposes).
This stinks of scam
ignore it and do not do anything they ask

Ive seen very similar emails from people wishing to make purchases off of Craigslist...
Does anyone know how the scam works though?

this sounds like the scam where they send you a check for like $500 more and ask you to refund the difference in the check- but the check that they give you is a fake bank check... definately report it

Yup exactly how it works. We used to get a lot of calls at work for people that actually fell for this, and the bank was pursuing them for the funds they withdrew on the bad check. I believe it's referred to as the "Nigerian check scam" or something like that.
I would give him the address to the local police dept and have him send his fake check there

Sounds to me like the Nigerian Check Cashing scam. Someone in my office had the same sort of thing when she was renting her house on Craigslist. Be careful.

Yeah, its confusing because when you click on the "report fraud" link ( or whatever it is) it brings you to another site...There is a phone # though, so maybe I'll give a call tommorrow..
I'm just hoping he goes away and doesnt harrass me !

heck no...for me craigslist sales are cash only and they only show up when i have someone else home with me. there are good people and weirdos on there! sounds like he is going to rip you off!

nope- they normally send out about 1000 of those emails a day
sometimes I write back- local pick up- cash only
they never write back to that
