Come on you all know what today is and what I mean!

Having kids has made St. Patricks Day my favorite holiday!

He told her he HAS TO BE real. I can't believe I'm saying this to a teacher but WTF was that teacher thinking? Do they volunteer that there is no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny at that school?

We've explained that not every house has a leprechaun. We're pretty sure it's Joe though because this stuff has been going on since he was about 4.Chat Icon

Honestly, I'm a teacher, and before reading this board, would never have known the leprechaun was something to be "protected" like Santa Claus. It was not something that was part of my childhood at all, and I really had no idea people made it out to be something real.

That said, my DD came home from school on Friday and was really very excited that the leprechaun came to her classroom and apparently dropped off cupcakes and pencils for them! Chat Icon

That's totally fair.. but even if a teacher doesn't recognize the tradition, it's not right to try to ruin it, KWIM? If you see a child all breathless with excitement and wonder over a visit from Santa, the Easter Bunny, Ishkabibble, The Green Lantern.. or whatever floats the parent's boat.. I don't think it's anyone's place to correct them and tell them it isn't 'real' or true.

Because of Barb we've done the leprechaun for several years now. They LOVE it. They have both kind of worked out that *I* am the leprechaun, but they still get a kick out of it!
