Ok, starting oatmeal today! Timing question plus a few others.
Starting with oatmeal. My pedi says go through the entire can/box and then on to barley. Go through that box, then start fruit. (she likes fruit before veggies.) Anyway, I asked her how to work this in. She said two servings a day--morning/mid noon and evening. I asked her, "With the bottle?" She said she prefers doing it about an hour after a bottle, so they are a little hungry and calm from just having eaten an hour or so prior. Thoughts on this? Did most of you offer the cereals WITH the bottle? I know every doc is different. So, my day sorta looks like this...
6:30 am bottle (about 7/7.5 ounces is what she drinks each time) 10:30 bottle (same) 11:30 ish: feed oatmeal/milk mixture (very excited by the way to see how this goes!) nap here, we hope 2:30: bottle maybe another nap at some point 5:30 ish: oatmeal/milk 6:30 or 7: last bottle
I had been also feeding her a bottle at 9:30 pm but that's officially gone! She sleeps through the night with the last bottle at about 6:30 and bedtime at 7:30. How does all this sound? She said to then starts fruits about a month later, mixed with oatmeal or barely. A month after that, veggies alone at lunch. She mentioned by the time we get to this, I might notice less ounces being taken at bottle time. Maybe even a dropped bottle??? Wait, sorry to be so obnoxious with the questions but you guys always know. :) I bought the single grain oatmeal, Gerber DHA + Probiotic for "supported sitters"--is that right? it doesn't say stage one, just single grain. I guess there are different grains eventually?

you schedule looks very similar to ours- we just have a fruit in the am/noonish time and a veggie in the evening mixed with the oatmeal
Good luck!

Anthony (5 months) eats solids 2x/day. He eats in between BF sessions. This is our feeding schedule...
6 - BF 8 - Oatmeal/Fruit 9 - BF 12 - BF 3 - BF 5 - Oatmeal/Veggie 7 - BF
This varies based on when he wakes up for the day. if he wakes up at 7, everything is just pushed back an hour.

Looks good. Ours is similar but I feed before bottle 7am- 7oz 10:30am-rice cereal (1oz formula mixed with cereal) and 3oz in a bottle as soon as food is done 1:30pm-7oz 4:30pm- same as 10:30 but with oatmeal instead 7:30pm-7oz bottle

Re: Ok, starting oatmeal today! Timing question plus a few others.
When we started my DS on cereal, it was separate from the bottle. We gave him the cereal mixed with BM on a spoon. Just like your ped said, we would give it to him about an hour after his last bottle/nursing session. It worked out great for us.
We started with rice, then after a couple of weeks tried oatmeal. He liked that much better, so we never looked back. Now he has oatmeal every day with fruit, and a veggie in the afternoon. I think we might start giving him another helping of oatmeal with the veggie soon too.
Good luck!

Re: Ok, starting oatmeal today! Timing question plus a few others.
I've always given the food first, then the bottle, but whatever works best for you is fine!
The only thing that stood out to me about your post is that your doctor said to FINISH the entire box of oatmeal before moving on?? We have the 8oz box and are still using the first one we opened--from TWO MONTHS ago! They eat so little that this makes no sense to me!
I tried new foods for about a week before moving on. After the first week of oatmeal for breakfast, I moved it to lunchtime and worked in a new food for breakfast and on and on. At 6 months, DS is eating most foods and has three meals a day now...

Totally hear you after feeding her for the first time. Going to stick with oats for a week, then move to barley, then mix and match as I see what she likes best. She told me I could vary and try things, and right away, I said no way to getting through the whole box!
