They'll def have a sale for Christmas decorations. Michael's has a pretty good one - 20 or 40% off everything for their early bird sale.
If you want to start looking now, Homegoods and TJ Maxx have some beautiful decorations and house goods (like tablecloths, kitchen towels, etc.)

This is my first year to really decorate. I can't wait! I have decorations from my Mom, from our Apt, plus I'll be visiting Target and Kohl's to get more.

Definitely hit the after Christmas sale though, I got the most gorgeous tree skirt for 75% off. It's tartan plaid w/ black faux fur trim and fur buttons.

Definitely check out Tuesday Morning and Home Goods for holiday decorations!!!!
I used to buy a lot of ornaments at Harrows (they carried some of the same stuff as Fortunoff, but for a fraction of the price.) I'm so bummed they're gone.
I was just telling my DH that I need to stop by the Melville Fortunoff Christmas Store to see what they're carrying.

This is from last year (our first year in the house) DH plans to go "bigger and better" this year ...I really wonder what that means.

Don't be bummed - they're coming back! I'm almost positive that I saw a sign for them either on Rte. 110 or by Ikea in Hicksville. I can't remember which now though.

I highly recommend ikea and target... they both have really nice stuff that is inexpensive. At my last tiny apartment, I wanted a 6 ft artificial tree that is narrow, and I got a decent quality one in target for under $30!!!!
