okay...lets talk big kids beds...
I want to get Noah a big boys bed but I have some reservations...so here they are, tell me how you handle these things...
1. Getting up in the night and walking around the house
2. Getting up at night and playing with toys/books in the room until 7 am when I have to get up and go to work and he is all tired and shizzle.
3. Getting up at night, throwing up on the floor and getting back into bed.
4. Getting up at night and banging on the door to let him out.
5. Getting up at night, climbing up onto the window frame, opening the window, climbing out the window, wandering the streets until the crack of dawn, climbing back into the window when the milk float delivers, and then getting into bed fooling me into thinking he has been sleeping all night.
6. Getting up in the morning, going downstairs, he puts a pot of coffee on, makes me a cup just the way I like it, brings it upstairs, waits for me to arise, starts the shower for me, etc etc...
So I want to know how you deal with all those things....

John's been in a bed since he was 16 months old. I've never had a problem with it, we have a gate at the top of the stairs so he cant go anywhere except my bedroom. The doors to the bathroom and spare room are closed.
As for the toys/books, can you take them out of his room (saw that on nanny911) at night?

Re: okay...lets talk big kids beds...
I think it depends on the child. Sammy was in crib until 2 1/2 and loved it. We had no problem with the transition or him coming out of his bed. Sara on the other hand I know she will be impossible so she will remain in a crib until she is 10 years old . I will keep her in as long as possible.
Kidding aside , establish the rules from day one. There is no getting out of the bed and leaving the room. YOu can call mommy and Daddy if you want something . I would also put a gate by the door and leave the door open so Noah knows he cannot leave his room. Good luck.

Re: okay...lets talk big kids beds...
When we put my kids in big beds, we made sure to totally child proof the room. And put a tension gate in their doorway. Be prepared for the change to have some interesting moments initally (lots of sleeping the doorways here - I even found my DD sleeping in her dresser drawer once) but the novelty eventually wears off. I dont think leaving a few books in there is a bad thing. My DS goes to sleep pretty quick once he is in bed but my DD still needs to play with her dolls by nightlight's glow or look at books before going to sleep.
How exciting for your DS...
#6 isnt necessarily a bad thing if he knows how you like your coffee and brings it to you in bed.
