Ok...so if we're considering our own business....how do you feel about the following ideas?
A: small children's consignment
B: small children's boutique where I buy boutique style wholesale and sell it cheaper than the store (ie: gymboree)
C: small scrapbook accessory store (I'm not a big scrapbooker so I'd need to find someone that is REALLY into it and knows more about it than I do
D: DH wants to do a specialty livery service with vintage vehicles that are all tricked out.

D seems like the only one that could turn into big money. The rest may be enough to live on, but you should love what you are doing cuz it won't be a ton of money.

I think I would go with A, unless you LOVE scrapbooking, then I would go with C.
I agree that it has to be something you love because you'll be devoting ALOT of time to it.
Even if you don't know alot about scrapbooking now, if you love it, you will enjoy learning more and more as your business grows.
D... well, I just don't see there being a huge market for this GA, though I could of course be wrong. It's also got the highest costs in every aspect...so if the business doesn't do too well, it really doesn't do well...kwim?

totally KWUM. We ran that thought past several college and HS kids and they thought it was awesome. down here, parents get kids limos for the night for their -days and Church youth groups are really big....so being able to cart around a small group in something cool (re-done VW Van) and cheaper than your typical limo seemed like an awesome idea to the kids we spoke to.

tough choice.
My concern with D would be the insurance would be insane and the cost of restoring or "tricking out" cars can be VERY pricey.
I think I like A.

There is a chldrens consignment store in the fancy schmancy posh village that I work in and it does fantastic business, people come from all over the region to buy stuff. They always have fancy prams and cribs in the window....

Also, keep in mind, that although you love little children's stuff now because you have a little one running around, will you still be interested in baby clothes when DD is in high school, college, and later? (I'm not saying you *won't* be, just something to think about.)

Re: Ok...so if we're considering our own business....how do you feel about the following ideas?
Scrapbook store sounds like a bad idea b/c of how cheap the large stores sell stuff , and with online markets , its too risky.
They only do well in smaller rural areas.
Consignment is good, but a lot of work involved getting goods....
Please dont take this the wrong way, but you have complained a lot about being overwhelmed with daily stuff in the house, I dont know if a shop you have to Run full time at first till it brings in money with two kids is the best option. You will be working way more then a 40 hour week to get it up and running.
Something you can hire people to do for you ( like the car business( seems like a better bet.....

Re: Ok...so if we're considering our own business....how do you feel about the following ideas?
Consider the investment you need to make for each venture. Trick out cars and then not getting enough business to cover the expenses --- renting a space for a consignment shop and not having a following... Maybe look into a franchise, like Once Upon a Child... that may work for your consignment shop idea...
Owning a business is a lot of work and responsibility, and the profit isn't seen ovenight.
Good luck!

I would do A or B
Scrapbook store seems like a trend right now, don't know if scrappybooking will still be popular in 5-10 years from now

Shana, why don't you get the stuff for B and sell on ebay? Then you don't have to worry about the whole shop end of it, you know?

this is my first desire, but I'm not sure how to go about getting the new stuff at wholesale prices....otherwise I'd already be doing it!

I know, I've been looking for a distributor for over a year.
