Old Clothes taking space in your closet
I have SOOOOOOO many clothes in my closet that I was hanging onto thinking I would fit back into them someday and I would like to wear them again... I was cleaning out one of my closets today and am seriously thinking I need to let go These clothes are from my early 20s, from before I gained my "marriage weight" (most of us ladies can relate to this sad one )
I guess I'm just wondering what everyone has done with their old clothes? Also, want to know if I am making the right decision. Hitting a new decade probably does mean that I need to buy age appropriate clothing?
I am now going to be a mother of 2 shortly and will be leaving the decade of my 20s next month when I turn 30
Just needed to let this out and maybe it'll help me put these clothes into a box and out of my life.
I am no fashion expert, I do love to go to the stores and buy clothes that catch my eye and I am not even sure if it is appropriate for my age, etc. but I'm guessing the tight shirts and tube dresses are not for a 30 year old mom of 2?

donating them is always an option.
do you have clothing drop bins in nearby shopping centers?
or call a local church / shelter..they can use it.
if its work clothes, i believe you can contact Dress for Success.

The rule is...if you haven't it in one year, get rid of it...I know it sounds scary, but it really does ring true.
I would donate the old clothes.

I go through my stuff at the beginning of the summer and winter. It feels fantastic to purge! Donate or give them away to someone who will enjoy them. Always a good reason to buy new stuff!

I do one of two things: either donate them OR if they are name brand clothes, I bring them to a consignment shop and try to get a few bucks for them.

Re: Old Clothes taking space in your closet
I don't follow the "if you haven't worn it in one year, get rid of it" rule, but I probably should!!!
I go through my closets at least once a year - two years ago I donated about 7 garbage bags full of clothes and shoes. It was hard at first to let go of those clothes (some even new with tags!!!! but I knew I would never wear them).
But it feels SOOOOOO much better to have more space in the closet!!! And I feel that it's better to have a "smaller" supply of clothes you'll actually wear, than a closet full of stuff and still can't find anything to wear.

Re: Old Clothes taking space in your closet
I agree if you haven't worn them in a year get rid of them unless you REALLY think they are classic and you will lose weight and wear them.
I have some clothes from a few years ago that I want to fit into again so I am hanging on, BUT I did fill a huge bag and donate stuff a few months ago.
As far as what is age appropriate, I always like to look at the young girls and see if they are wearing it, if they are, then I shouldn't. Also, don't discount clothes as being only for a certain age. Some magazines have done articles about how to wear a trend at all ages so that you don't look ridiculous.
Good luck! And don't worry, after a while you will begin to appreciate your body for what it has done (carry babies) and not beat it up because it can't wear tube tops as prettily anymore

I always go by the 1 year rule too. I donate all old clothes to either a local church or drop them in the bins that I see.

Re: Old Clothes taking space in your closet
i have this same issue. i am not ready to part with my clothes yet, but we are thinking about baby #2 and i am hoping to get back into shape after that.
i bought space saver bags to store the clothes and they work very, very well.
i would go through your clothes, determine what you cannot part with right away, and what you can part with. give away what you can and store what you can't. you can always give the clothes you kept another time.
