older ladies
Hello all Unfortunetly I am coming back. IVF works for us, but I seem to only make down syndrome babies.
Doctors, genetic councelors, family and friends all tell me I am young enough to have a healthy baby (38)
I just want to hear some postive stories for the 39 and older crowd Thanks so much..........

Re: older ladies
I was 36 when we started to TTC. I was 37 when I was told I had IF issues that were completely unrelated to my age (cervical stenosis). I was 38 when I had my daughter who is healthy (thank G-d) and we do plan on having another and I am 39 now. We did not have genetic counseling. I did have losses though. I did have an amnio even after I had been told that my numbers got significantly better with each and every screening I had. You can have a healthy child. It may take longer. It may be harder. But it can and does happen. Don't give up and keep the faith.

Re: older ladies
I am sorry for your loss. Well, I don't have any positive stories for myself (now 41 and moved onto DE, started TTC when 37), BUT I have two friends who have been very lucky at 39. One was told she'd never get pg, had a failed IVF cycle and then 2 months later on her own got pg. She's about to have #2 in November at 40 1/2 (also naturally on their first try, after baby #1 turned 6wks). And my other friend got lucky with an IUI 4 months ago and is expecting twins in Jan/Feb. She'll be 40 in December. She actually had a m/c last year on IUI #3, and then started up again and #2 was a lucky hit (all around, I guess...lol). So, you just never know. You just gotta find that good egg in there. Are you doing PGD or similar testing?
I wish you lots of luck.

Re: older ladies
Yes, we will be doing either PGD or CGH. I plan to cycle for 2 to 3 months and hoard as many eggs as I can get, plus I still have 3 frozen ones. This is my 3rd loss( twins 1, about 9 weeks, was never able to send out for testing the other around 12-13, that one was sent out- downs.
Then from the same batch became pregant again, another downs baby
I did not do PGD because I was told by many different genetic councelors and the doctor the chances of it happening again were so slim ( no one knows anything) So we are hoping that it works in our favor this time.
I still have to wait a few cycles before I start which stinks. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Re: older ladies
43 here - I was 43 when I conceived Colin (42 with Rogan). Neither baby had DS, although I was initially told that I was at a very high risk for DS with Colin. I opted for the image testing before going for an amnio and there were no real markers for DS so I opted against the amnio.

Re: older ladies
44 over here just had a baby girl .. My AFP results came back 1 and 7 and then I had the amnio.. she ended up not having downs. I refused to do the test on the eggs when they retrieved them.. I only had 4 that fertilized.. I would go to see Dr Braverman.. He gave me an intriliped infusion before my retreval and after.. I believe that had something to do with my 2 perfect eggs that they put back.. Only one made it but I did have 2 8cell at my 3 day transfer.. I know they did the infusion for my N/K cells but its just fat and protien.. not a medication.. I would ask about it.. DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!

Re: older ladies
Do not give up! I was 38 when DD was born! I did lose to babies (my first IVF and DD's twin). My RE is pretty sure due to downs or other chromosomal abnormalities. We are getting ready to do a FET and my RE strongly recommended PGD on our frosties. There is a NEW PGD that tests all chromosomes. My embies were biopsied two weeks ago and we are just waiting on the results.
