Olympics Opening & Closing Ceremonies
Was it just me, or did anyone else think they were too much? Too elaborate, too many visual extravaganzas?
Many of the things they did were beautiful, I just felt as if some editing was needed. A bit too much IMO.

Re: Olympics Opening & Closing Ceremonies
We truly enjoyed both Opening and Closing Ceremonies. China did amazing job.
We weren't to impressed with London's show last night.
Maybe they should ask China for some Ideas.

Okay, maybe I'm a stick in the mud!
They were incredible, I just thought a bit too much. They still would have been incredible if they did a bit less.

Re: Olympics Opening & Closing Ceremonies
I liked the opening, but the closing seemed to go on for too long, with those people climbing up and down that tower thing & the random Chinese popstars. . .and Jackie Chan!
I did change the chanel, but all I missed was the London stuff.

I didn't care for the "English" part of the closing ceremony though... It kind of has me wondering what they're going to do in 2012.

I agree. The opening were AMAZING. The closing last night were a snorefest and kind of cheesy.. what was up with "Beijing Beijing" those cheesy pop singers? Last night was lame.

They inroduced that song as, the now, well-known I Love Beijing, or something like that, but I don't think I had heard it at all in any other Olympic related stuff. I did catch on quickly & sing it the rest of the night to annoy my husband, though! I also can't just say Beijing now, It's always, "Beijing-Beijing", with the hard J sound.

IMO, I think the olympic committee heading up the 2012 olympics in London better offer something better than what they did in the cloisng ceremonies.
I didn't like that segment very much at all.

Re: Olympics Opening & Closing Ceremonies
In Mandarin, Beijing is pronounced with a hard "j" -- it sounds more like "BAY-gin" or "BAY-ging" than the way we pronounce it here. When I was there on business last year, one of the guys who was with me INSISTED on pronouncing it like it is in Mandarin. I still can't see the word "Beijing" or hear it without thinking of him going around saying "Bay-gin" for 2 weeks...

Not at all! Yes, it was over the top and flashy and I could see how people could think it was too much.
I think I was just like a little kid watching the closing ceremonies, though -- in awe of the acrobatics, etc.

Re: Olympics Opening & Closing Ceremonies
It was a little oongapatcha. Too much going on to truly appreciate each bit. I quite liked the London bit (but remember, the Olympic in 2012 are in LONDON, and they are all about LONDON. London, London, London) I really liked all of the British imagry, and I loved the double decker bus, wasn't too impressed with the topiary skyline of LONDON.
The displays were visually stunning, however, it takes a communist country to get such fantastic mass coreography(J/K)

I liked the idea of what they were trying to do but I didn't think that part of the ceremony was executed well.
The singer (I forget her name) did a really bad job of lip synicing her portion of the performance and I didn't understand why they put her up on that platform that raised all the way up with that super long skirt on her dress.
Also, you couldn't hear a word of what she was singing - which was more of a sound issue I guess.
Lastly I thought they were going to do more from London...they made this big deal over Michael Phelps going there and being part of the closing ceremonies but to me it just didn't fit. It was like a 2 minute spot that almost seemed like they squeezed it in there so he could get some face time. Not that I minded seeing that face (in spite of what other's think!! )
Oh and I would like to add that I didn't mind seeing David Beckham on the screen... he's very easy on the eyes!!!

Re: Olympics Opening & Closing Ceremonies
I thought THIS newsbit was fantastically funny- I totally noticed they changed the words and was like, "WTH?"
Sexual Innuendo Dropped From Led Zeppelin Song at Olympic Closing Ceremony
The Beijing Games concluded with the closing ceremony today, and the Summer Olympic torch was passed off to London. A performance by Jimmy Page of the British band Led Zeppelin was part of that hand-off from Beijing to London, but it turns out that some folks think Zeppelin lyrics aren't appropriate for all ears.
Page and Leona Lewis performed a version of the Zeppelin classic "Whole Lotta Love" that had some of the lyrics changed and others excised so as not to offend. Lewis didn't want to sing the line, "I'm gonna give you every inch of my love" in the second verse, because she said she didn't think that particular "sexual innuendo" made sense from a female singer. So "inch" was changed to "bit."
And the third verse, which includes the line, "Shake for me, girl, I wanna be your backdoor man" was deemed inappropriate and was cut from the ceremony.
My question: If the song was considered inappropriate, why didn't they just pick another song, instead of saddling the closing ceremony with a bastardized version?

I'm impressed you could actually understand what she was singing! If it weren't for the fact that I recognized the "music" part of it, I would have had not clue as to what song she was singing.
And I agree, they should have just picked a different song rather than changing the lyrics of that song.

The mayor of London actually was my favorite part of the whole ceremony! He was a hoot!
