OMG, are you FREAKIN KIDDING ME?!
I'm going to drop. That's it. Someone pass over the straightjacket and I'll commit myself to the funny farm. Enough is enough. Think you can keep up? Read on...
My dad signed a lease to start Tuesday, October 2nd. We told my MIL, who is DYING to see Alex, so she booked a flight for Wednesday October 3rd. Only ONE guest room, so he has to be out by then.
Building will not allow people to move in on the weekend, so we asked and the building gave us permission, to move my father in Monday, October 1st, so we have a couple of days to get everything unpacked and ready. I hired movers for that day.
Great, everything running smoothly (except my brothers won't help, but that's another post(s)).
Last step? Order furniture and have it delivered the same day, Monday, October 1st. We spend 5 hours in the store, pick out EVERYTHING and at the end, the manager tells us, oh, we don't deliver on Sundays or Mondays. WHAT?!!! 
Ok, we can fix this. I told my Dad, call the building, ask if they will allow you to move your stuff in Friday, September 28. If you have to pay a couple hundred, we'll just have to do it, because having the furniture delivered on Tuesday, October 2nd is just cutting it too close.
He calls. They tell him, nope, no way because we will be remodeling your kitchen and installing a dishwasher. Oh, and by the way, it may not even be ready by October 2nd, in which case, we'll move you into a guest room and you'll have to move your stuff later.
So now what? My Dad is an attorney. I told him NO WAY. You signed a lease and they AGREED to let you move in on October 1st already. They have 4+ weeks to finish the kitchen. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Call back and push back.
So, I have a splitting headache now. I really need this right now, on top of catching a whiff of Mr. Skunk every now and then

I'm confused...
I understand your irritation if the building won't have your dad's kitchen ready by Oct 2nd causing him to not be able to move in, since they did promise that but why are you angry with them for not letting him move in Sept. 28th?
They're already accommodating him by agreeing to have him move in on Oct 1st, if they get everything ready by then shouldn't you guys be good to go?
Did they say why they didn't think the kitchen would finished?
Maybe he could convince them to let him move in if he doesn't use the kitchen until they're finshed? Since it's only a days difference what could they possibly have left to do?

I'm not angry about Sept. 28 - it was a gamble and I knew it may not work out. I'm TICKED that they executed a contract with him specifying that the room, THAT room, would be available Oct. 2nd. He's older, frail, nervous as it is, it's just not fair to set him up in a temporary guest room while it takes god knows how long to finish the kitchen, and then we have to rush at the last minute to arrange for everything to be moved.
