OMG- forgot to tell you guys....

So, on Friday morning, I'm getting everything ready so I can leave the house by 9 to drive to Long Island (from Maryland). I go to put the previous night's bag of BM in the freezer and notice PUDDLES of water.

Our fridge had died sometime betwen 10pm the night before and 9am the next day. I had over 50 bags of expressed breast milk in there that I've been stashing since early summer.

So I started hyperventilating because I know that once frozen BM is thawed it has to be used within 24 hours. NONE of my neighbors were home to let me use their freezer to store the ones NOT thawed.

Long story short: I lost more than half my supply. BUT the local supermarket around the corner from me now carries BM- at least until we get a new fridge.

I'm OK about it now- but I am devestated. All the nightly pumpings are going to have to continue- I had hoped to be able to stop them- especially since DD is showing signs of sleeping the night soon.

The worst part is: I have been after DH was WEEKS to get a small freezer for me to store BM in so that when we wean her, she'll be able to go to a year on BM.

I have NOT said "I told you so"- there's no pleasure in it for me...

Ugh, I remember crying over spilled milk once. DH spilled it & I almost took his head off. Finally, I held the bottle up & said "Liquid Gold! Do you know what it took to get this?!" That was one bottle, not a stash. I can't even imagine.

How great is it that your supermarket is helping you out? I don't think there is one place on LI that would do that. Love Maryland!

When I called them, I asked to speak to a manager (PRAYING) it would be a woman). Whe a woman's voice came on over the phone, I burst into tears. She HAD to help me- I was so pathetic.

Turns out she was a nursing mother too- and was horrified when I told her what had happend and told me to bring the milk right over.

Later, I was thinking, "Gee- I wonder if I should have aked them to store all the steak and chicken we had in there too..." Can you see where my priorities are?

Absolutely! I told DH the next time it happened, I was attaching the pump to his nipple to drive my point home.

I wouldn't have even thought of the supermarket! Quick thinking!!!
