OMG! having OHSS is the worst! ---UPDATE
4th day dealing with a mild case of OHSS and this really sucks! My stomach is so distended that I look like I am 3 months pregnant already and I am only 4.5 weeks along. This bloating gets worst at night. I can't sleep RE told me I have a mild case of OHSS and I will be monitored.
Anyone else who has dealt / still dealing with OHSS during pregnancy? How long did it take to go away?
Thank you for letting me vent
UPDATE----01/04/2011
Here is my belly at 5 weeks 2 days. I look 3 months already...so difficult to hide it at work Image Attachment(s):

Re: OMG! having OHSS is the worst!
I dealt with it, also. I got very bloated, dehydrated, and was in a lot of pain. I eventually ended up in the hospital for a couple of days. My hormones went a little nutty because I was pg with triplets at first. My docs reassured me that it was actually a good sign that I was dealing with OHSS when I was... I really wasn't stimulated to the point of OHSS until after the embryos implanted. I followed their instructions to a "t" -- collected urine, watched how much and what kinds of liquids I took in, ate a high protein - low sodium diet, and tried to stay positive. It really turned off like a switch when I entered into my 2nd trimester. I hope you feel better sooner than that, but if not, know that it will probably resolve itself by then. My docs kept telling me that and they were 100% correct!
Hang in there and take care of yourself!

Re: OMG! having OHSS is the worst!
I was lucky because I had moderate OHSS right after my retrieval. I was really bad for about a week and LUCKILY for me, I had a late implanter and ws a TON better by the time I found out I was pg.
It stuck around for a while...the bloating was insane the first trimester, but I was really only in pain for a week.

Re: OMG! having OHSS is the worst!
After 45 eggs retrieved I ended up with OHSS. It was horrible. My stomach was huge and bloated I went and bought maternity pants cause I couldn't wear my regular clothes. I try to lay as much as I could with feet up and drank gatorade only when thirsty. Doc said to limit fluid intake to only when needed. OOOh one thing saved my life cause I couldn't sleep nights was screaming from pain sometimes....Take a 2 liter bottle, fill it with warm water and then lay on your side and put the bottle by your stomach. That was THE BEST thing I could have ever done for myself during that time.

Re: OMG! having OHSS is the worst!
i had 18 eggs retrieved from IVF and had mild OHSS. this was your first medicated cycle, right? to be honest, it sounds like what you have is normal post medicated cycle bloating, not quite OHSS. its pretty rare to get OHSS from ovulation induction unless you produced upwards of 10 eggs (which did happen to me my first medicated cycle, but the cycle got cancelled due to risk of multiples). with OHSS you can barely move or breathe. and you gain weight from the fluid. i gained 9lbs in 2 days and actually looked 7 months pregnant (i have pics). i had to take a few days off of work to recover. it lasted about 2 weeks for me. HCG makes it worse and I was initially pregnant with two so the OHSS came on strong. even with all of that my dr. was hesitant to say i had anything more than mild OHSS, so im sure you dont actually have it, you probably just have some fluid buildup which is uncomfortable, but not really threatening to your well being. what were your betas?? just drink fluids with electrolytes and you'll be fine. also dont eat big meals, they make it worse.

Thank you so much for the information. This was in fact our first medicated IUI. We had five mature follicles (4 d first IUI and 5 with the second day). I haven't gotten my first beta results yet because of the holidays (tomorrow is the day ). RE did the transvaginal on Thursday and determined is a mild case of OHSS (have fluid in my ovaries). It is a bit difficult to breathe and have a bit of pain as well. RE is going to see me this week to monitor me. I hope you are right and is not OHSS. Thanks once again

Re: OMG! having OHSS is the worst! ---UPDATE
this is what 9lbs of OHSS fluid looked like on me.... for comparison this was 5W, and the second pic is from saturday which was 14w..
ETA - ignore the gross lovenox bruise and vivelle tape stuck to the side of my stomach Image Attachment(s):

Re: OMG! having OHSS is the worst! ---UPDATE
Thank you for sharing FlowerWife You have a cute belly
How did you hide it?
I am wearing huge tunics/sweaters/ shirts....you name it I am more concerned about work. Don't want to tell them until the first trimester is over. I always wore fitted clothes at work and when asked I told everyone I have been gaining weight lately. I also told some that I had an adverse reaction to steroids. I have a dislocated disc on my neck and used to get steroid shots for the pain.

Re: OMG! having OHSS is the worst! ---UPDATE
I had about 9 lbs worth of fluid too....
I am 6 months pregnant and it probably is about the same.
It is not a fun experience AT ALL.
