OMG I can't believe this.. UPDATED with pictures
I have a friend who has a daughter who just turned 13 yrs old this month. I saw some pics of her on her Myspace page. Her parents had a party for her in their house, and I was SHOCKED to see what they were alllowing!!!
First, she was dressed in "booty shorts" and there are pictures of her "grinding" on boys at the party IN FRONT OF HER PARENTS!
Second, there is a picture of her holding a CORONA drinking from it.
I am still in shock. I just can't believe that they allowed this. I showed DH and he was in shock!! He said "I will NOT allow that with our daughter".
I blocked out her face, but here is a picture...of her with the beer and dancing:

agreed. I don't understand the parent's logic behind allowing this to go on right in front of their face.

I would LOSE it if this were my daughter!!! I just cannot believe my friend...I really can't. She'll probably say there is nothing wrong with it.

I wouldn't allow my kids to do that in front of me.
As an aside, I think you should take down the first pic. There are a lot of kids faces you can see in that one. I know it was up on Myspace but it just doesn't feel right to me.

I WOULD NEVER EVER host a party for my child who was underage and serve alcohol!!! Your friends are very lucky that no other parent reported them!
What is up with kids these days? Everyone wants to grow up so quick! They don't realize how time flies and you wish you were a kid again! When I was 13 I was just having slumber parties with all my girlfriends!

Unbelievable I would be mighty pizzed if I sent my 13 yr old daughter to a party and there was drinking going on. I would be all over the parents for that one!

I totally agree! Please I didn't even know what a cell phone was at 13. Or even a beeper for that matter. I used to have to beg my parents to let me go to the movies with my friends and even that was a big deal.

AGREED! This type of stuff makes me so angry at the parents. PLEASE be her parents and STOP trying so desperately for your 13yr old to like you & be her BFF!!!!!
UMMMM, she is 13! She will not like her parents for another 8-10 years! DEAL WITH IT AND PARENT YOUR UNDERAGE CHILD!
JMO, but her parents should be arrested and if my DD was at a party like this, i would call the cops on the parents.

No way in hell.
My husbands niece has pictures on her page of them having a "puke party" holding large bottles of liquor & there is my SIL in the photo. (DH niece was 16 the legal drinking age in Ireland is 18. but still ILLEGAL!)

I could never imagine behaving like that when I was 13, forget about me allowing my DD to do that in front of me. I can only pray I instill good values iand not have to even worry about it when the time comes

First off, its ridiculous these parents should be less concerned with being "cool" and their daughter's "friend". Ultimately, they are sending her the wrong message. She's just testing the boundaries that they aren't setting. You have to ask yourself, if that's acceptable in front of your parents, what's going on when they are not around.
Having an almost 10 year old I'm closer to this than I want to be. What I have seen is that even in this tween age range, there are just some kids that are faster/more sexualized than others. Last year I told may daughter that she could ask me anything and that I would always give her the right answer but that she couldn't be sure that some random kid on the bus or at school knew the answer. As a result we've spoken about a lot of things that I didn't think I would be talking to a 10 year old about. But I have to believe that if your old enough to ask a question , you deserve an answer. That said I don't necessarily give more information than she asks for but I am always 100% honest. I have to hope the kids with information hopefully get into less trouble. I also routinely explain to her that boys want to touch your body, that just the nature of the "beast" but in my opinion no good comes from young girls having sex. For now my kid is a "jock" and I'm hoping that delays certain issues. What I have noticed, is that at least with kids in this age range, the jocks seem to be different girls, kids whose parents I seem to be on the same page with at least.
Oh well, Can you tell I'm nervous. Sorry to be so long winded.

Jocks, or nerds (I was a total dork growing up - had more interest in math olympiads and going to the MET in NYC, than anything to do with boys). Exactly why Dh is trying to raise Alex to be a tomboy, and if that fails, hopefully she'll inherit some of mommy's dorkiness

She a little bit of a "nerd" also. She loves science and after her daycamp programs ends, will be involved in a marine biology program at a local university for a week. She is so excited to go out on "cruises" and learn about local marine life. I tell my husband, if I didn't see her come out of body, I wouldn't beleive that she's my kid.
