It is so sad...
I can't even begin to comprehend what this poor little girl has been through. Ugh, sickening.
And the fact that the mother doesn't think she's done ANYTHING wrong!!

Yes I saw part of the show. It's really sad that such a life is a reality for some children, that is just a shame

It is unbelievably heartbreaking.
The couple that took this little girl, Danielle, in are saints in my book. Such amazing people and their children are too!!

the mother is just astonishing to me. "all i'm guilty of--is a dirty house"
are you freaking KIDDING ME!??! your daughter, at nearly 7 years of age, was not potty trained, can not feed herself, does not speak, has never seen a doctor, never been to school, is malnourished, and had fleas & lice visible in her hair when she was found by the police and was wearing a diaper that was soiled with days worth of waste as well as living in utter filth.
and all you're guilty of is a dirty house?? un-freaking-real
ETA: i am glad that a few years later the family that did adopt her--has been trying to give her the best life they can and work with her challenging disabilities. they are angels.

I didn't see Oprah, but I read about it on line last night. In the article it (which was from 2008) it said that the mother had an IQ of 77 !

ETA: I think it's HORRIBLE what happened to her early on in life. I think her parents now are doing a WONDERFUL job. And I also think the brother is doing well too....how many kids would adjust to a situation as well as he has.
I also think it's horrible that the birth woman (the term mother should NOT be used when describing HER....) should have had some jail time. She signed over all of her rights, and did some community service, but when injured the rest of her community service was waived....that a load of BULL in my opinion ! ! !

I didn't see this. I really wish I had. I just read the article online. The section where they talk about William (the son) and the sacrifices he makes brought me to tears. What a good kid!
This story is heartbreaking.

I saw some of it and it made me sick to my stomach and angry. The birth mother angered me so much! I am thrilled that the little girl was adopted by a family who genuinely seemed to love her.

I just can't believe this, it is so said.
She had the potential to be a perfectly normal little girl, if only someone had loved her.
I'm glad her new parents are there for her now, I just feel to sad for what might have been.
