OMG Old Bethpage Closing

Can you believe this??? I went there when I was in school and I cannot imagine our kids losing such a great piece of history. They need it now more than ever.
This link is a petition started by re-enactors and needs signatures. It is, to my knowledge, totally legitimate. Please consider clicking on the link and signing the petition. Do you mean Old BETHPAGE Village Restoration??

Cuz I don't think I've ever seen any animals at Old Westbury Gardens... not that they don't have them, but I've never seen them.

I searched it real quick on Google and didn't come up with any information that suggests Old Bethpage Restoration is closing.

Yea Suozzi is thinking of closing it due to lack of funds. One of our friends is a volunteer and he told us all about it. It was in Newsday as well.

its not definite yet. depends on what happens with the budget cuts.

and yes there are animals there, on the powell farmstead, which when last checked was still a working, allbeit small working farm.

i've been volunteering there for more than half my life now... 22 years to be exact. the LI Fair every fall.... if they close, its going to be a real shame. its a good place.

Yes I heard about this as well. There is a petition going around and I think they are voting on the 23rd of this month about it.

Honestly between this and Patterson's cutting funding to the live museums - When I was at the aquarium (NY aquarium) the other day they had the petition out and said they will be forced to close if he goes thru with all of this as well as the other zoos and places.

Part of the whole value of NY is the history and culture of this area if you take away the museums, zoos, etc it will have significant ramifications.

This would be heartbreaking. I used to love going there and took my DH there a few years ago (he's not from LI). He was completely fascinated by it and can't wait to take our son there. And when we were there last, they did have farm animals. Not a lot but some pigs, chickens, etc.

I used to cut out of college and go there all the time with a dear friend who has since passed away.

We LOVED that place. Soooo many good memories. We loved buying the root beer for .05.

What a shame.

Not only is he closing the restoration but he is closing a bunch of parks too. What is going to happen to these places? Plus all of the people who will most likely be out of jobs

ooohhhhhh NOOO!! The first time I went I was in elementary school in Queens and they put us on a bus and took us out alll the waaaaay (we thought LI was so far away then) to LI to see it. In 8th grade my family moved to Bethpage so we went every summer. How sad!!!

Noooo! I love this place! I have been going here since before I could walk and have entered things in the fair my whole life! It would be such a shame if he closes it!
