OMG what a mess!
There is white dust which I assume is pieces of sheetrock all over the house What is the best way to clean it up? I tried wiping the counter with a damp rag and now there is white streaks Should I not use wetness? My mom told me to vacuum everything.

Re: OMG what a mess!
We had a lot of dust on our floors from sheetrock and I used the Swiffer.

Try to Swiffer as much of it up as possible...then go wet. We had a fine dust for a couple of weeks - no matter how much we dusted & wiped, it still fell (seemingly, out of nowhere! ).
Edited to add - I neglected to say that the Swiffer process comes in after you vacuum.

Re: OMG what a mess!
This has been the M.O. in our house the past year.
I vacum it all first, then I use a wet rag to wipe it all down, then let it dry, and then wipe it again with a wet rag.
I have also gone to the dollar tree and buy every plastic drop cloth they have for $1 and now I tarp everything in my house when theres a project going on. I still have dust all over but it cuts down on everything.

I actually took a mist bottle and sprayed up to the ceiling in hopes that the dust would fall down and then wiped down everything individually. You need to rinse often.

Re: OMG what a mess!
We removed old plaster in our house and there is dust on everything - DH thinks it's a good idea to use a wet sponge on it, resulting in a gross paste!! I find it works best if I very gently sweep it up first (but really a swiffer would probably work even better) and then go at it with a sponge or wet rag.
I wouldn't vaccuum - the dust is so fine that it ruined ours - we had a canister vac, not a bag, and the dust clogs up the filter.

Re: OMG what a mess!
When our kitchen was tiled it was a huge mess too...I first swept it with a soft broom, then I vacuumed it all up, after that I got on my hands and knees and washed the floor with a car washing sponge (which was HUGE) and once that dried I mopped it all with a regular mop, and the next day I cleaned it up with a swiffer power mop thing.
After that, you can clean it regularly and it will be fine. Its a lot of work, but its got to be done.

Re: OMG what a mess!
Whenever we have construction dust in the house we first use a dry-vac vacuum (construction vacuum you can get at Home Depot). Then we go over it again with the regular vacuum, then I sweep to get the last remnants, and then I mop.
